The End of The Year Fic Meme, of which I stole parts of from ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
medie, and added a few things to as I went along.
I wrote something like 20 stories this year, including my first ever drabbles. Considering I went nearly three years without writing a single fictional thing, I'm still kind of surprised.
My favorite story this year (of my own): This was the last one I answered -- I had a hard time deciding! I'm torn between Irreconcilable Differences and Broken Window. Irreconcilable Differences because I just like reading this story. It was a new series (not that it was ever supposed to be a series!), a new character, the theme of the price of immortality, and a totally different Methos. There are parts of this particular story I really enjoy. As for Broken Window, it makes me sad, but I love it for that. I love seeing a side of Methos that's dealing with loss and trying not to lose hope. And that the choices we think that if we'd made would have made our lives better or happier, might have consequences we couldn't imagine.
My best story this year: Takasago's Pines and its companion piece, My Soul Is Dark. They were hard, not comfortable to write at all, revisiting a place in the series I hadn't for quite a few years. Believe it or not, I don't enjoy it when everyone ends up not happy and things are dark and tragic, but sometimes, that's what life is like, and loving someone doesn't guarantee a happy ending. So these two were not happy, but they meant something to me when I wrote them. And setting Pines during an actual episode was technically challenging. So in the end, I was very pleased with how they turned out.
Most fun story: Oh, it had to be Let Not Your Heart Be Tribbled. What's not to love about a story with Methos, Duncan, Joe, and Tribbles?
Most sexy story: Probably The Tragedy That We Knew As The End, before it goes all pear shaped. Heh!
Story with single sexiest moment: Hmmm... perhaps the scented oil scene in Takasago's Pines. I thought it was kinda hot :) Or maybe the 'making out in the ally to hide from the bad guys' scene in Bajoran Holiday.
Story with single sweetest moment: It would probably be First Sunrise. Methos bringing the rose all the way from Earth for that first sunrise on a new planet. It was my anti-Valentine's story for 2006 [g]
The story that made me cry: Should the Dawn Return. Now, you'd think this would be the most sexy story, since it's the only really adult fic I wrote this year, but it wasn't the sex that made it stand out for me, but the love of two people trying to overcome a tragedy.
Hardest story to write: Broken Window. This one was emotionally hard. One of the things you always wonder about is 'what if?' What if I'd made different choices? How would my life, and the life of those I love, be different if I had? I was able to explore that in this story. This would be the other story that makes me cry. Okay, lots of my stories make me cry. Hush there in the peanut gallery! Yes, I'm looking at you, Tam.
Easiest story to write: Cock-Eyed Optimist. This was based on a photo from the new HL movie, the one with Methos holding the book. It just sort of flew onto the screen. Methos and Amanda just... snap! :)
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: My Highlander/Grey's Anatomy crossovers (Irreconcilable Differences, Seriously, Tragedy We Knew As the End). It was a total whim at the time, but they sucked me in. And it made sense that Methos would be a doctor again at some point, and why not at Seattle Grace? It allowed me to combine is my new favourite show with one of eternal fandoms, and throw in a cameo by Greg House. You know what's funny now? That Dr. Adam Pierse has a lot of Dan Clifford in him!
Most overdue story: Shattered, definitely. One of the recurring bits in the Bloodties series as been Methos' aversion to vampires, and hints at what Divia did to Triona. Shattered finally dealt with both of those issues. And along the way, I became very fond of the setting created in the Yorkshire countryside, which has led to the start of a sequel, and my Halloween story this year, Lavender at Midnight.
