My three favourite shows:
Blake's 7
Highlander
Forever Knight
My three favourite characters:
Avon
Methos
LaCroix
Anyone notice a theme here? Other than the fact all three have the best lines. :) One of these days, I'm writing that Highlander/Blake's 7 fic I've been meaning to get to one of these days.
Two Avon quotes:
Regret is part of being alive
Sentiment breeds weakness, let it get hold of you and you are dead.

Date: 2006-04-24 06:47 pm (UTC)From:Heh, random killing off of characters isn't necessary to keep me on my toes.
That being said, I wouldn't be happy if it was my character they killed off!
*Nods.* That's certainly part of why I hate high body counts, but it's only part of it. The thing I was trying to get at with the blurb I put up in my LJ is that a body count can quickly break my suspension of disbelief.
As long as Methos or LaCroix is the last one standing, it's all good [weg]
Glad that works for you. I figured David Abramowitz deserved the grilling he took at Leeds for what looked like Joe's death, and I didn't hear him give any good answers about it.

It has to be more than random. There needs to be a good reason. As far as B7 goes, the actors themselves wanted to move on to other things, so in the context of a hopeless rebellion, the fact that some of them would die made sense so that worked for me.
Forever Knight, I was unhappy with Schanke being killed off because it was just USA jerking the show around so they could put a young blonde chick -- Tracy -- in his place.
As far as Joe being killed off, I'm hearing he isn't the only one. And I hated the last movie, so the movies don't really exist in my own particular fandom reality except as a source of pretty piccies of a certain really old Immortal :)

I took a look once at the percentage of the combat forces in WWI that where actually killed, and for most of the combatants it was only 20%, lower than the toll of the Black Death. I hate knee jerk "The actor wants out lets kill his character off!"

Aww, I liked Tracy. However, while I don't know if they could financially have kept Schanke and added Tracy, I'm sure creatively they could've added Tracy without killing Schanke off. I've come to accept Schanke's death, but live in complete denial of Javier Vachon's and Tracy's.

I've heard rumors that Methos may not make it. Frankly if it's death or spending eternity in the fringed leather jacket death doesn't seem so bad. At the con we were told they'd shot multiple endings to the movie, and hadn't settled on the ending they're actually going to release.

*Nods.* One of the things about indiscriminate character assassination is that people wind up with wildly different versions of "fandom reality" based on where they're denial takes over. B-)
