Hmmm....

Okay, I like TW, I enjoy watching it, but it still hasn't grabbed me to where it's a show I'm going to miss if it doesn't get renewed. I keep waiting for that moment, but no dice so far. Sometimes I get the feeling they don't know what sort of show they want it to be. It really sends me mixed signals from week to week, hell, during a single episode for that matter. Maybe if they'd actually do an episode about Jack? That's what I want. That's why I'm watching the show. But I'm still no nearer getting to know how Jack became the guy he is from the guy he was in DW.

So the episode. Good one all around. But are they trying to tell us there's some sort of 'thing' brewing between Jack and Gwen? There's certainly been enough long lingering looks. But Gwen's sleeping with Owen. And the thing at the end with Ianto and the stopwatch? What the heck was all that about? Was it some sort of really odd come on? Or is it some sort of in joke I'm clueless about? Only thing that came to mind was the Monty Python sketch with the Chinese watch. And then of course Tosh has a thing for Owen. So maybe they should just have an office orgy and call it a day.

That's all I got. Bed now for me.

Heh, as my friend said? That "stopwatch" thing, translated into American:

Ianto: Want to fuck?
Jack: Duh.

So yeah, it was a come-on. And argh I hope they don't make the Jack/Gwen thing happen too soon.

See that's what I thought was going on, but I've never heard of a stop watch used as a euphemism for sex in any UK TV show, or book, or from any of my relatives, so I was a little confuzzled. Just how common is it anyway? Plus it didn't make sense in the context of the scene. Jack had just given this long smouldery look to Gwen, then then he's having a serious discussion with Ianto and then the whole stop watch thing. There was just nothing there to indicate to me there was any sort relationship between the two of them. Especially when last we saw, Ianto was still deeply grieving for CyberChick and had some real issues.

I don't think it is a euphemism? I just think it's that kind of flirting where you could say anything so long as you gave it the right implication, and there had been Jack/Ianto flirtation before. I read a ficlet where they played drinking games with the stopwatch until it lead to serious conversation and then finally the sex.

You're one up on me [g] I've never come across a stopwatch anywhere ever used in a sexual/flirting context. Probably why that whole scene just seemed 'off' to me.

I agree the stop watch thing amounted to "want to fuck?"

I kind of like that they are keeping Jack an enigma. If they told to much about him it would spoil the mystery.

Most sifi shows take a season or two to find there nitch and figuar out just what they're going to be.

I hope it last that long, they've got a great idea.
