"Fox Orders Immortal Cop Show

The Fox TV network has ordered a pilot tentatively titled New Amsterdam, about a New York homicide detective who is secretly centuries old, Variety reported.

Allan Loeb and Christian Taylor (ABC's Miracles) will write and executive-produce the pilot. Steven Pearl also is an executive producer. Regency TV is producing with Scarlet Fire Films, the trade paper reported."

I wonder why that sounds so familiar...?

I dunno... it calls him an "immortal" cop, not a "vampire" one. I'm curious as to what he is/how he's immortal. I mean it might be something relatively straight forward like he's a vampire or like I guessed elsewhere in this thread he's something of an angel/fallen angel, but it could be more exotic either in what kind of immortal he is or how if he is/was human he became immortal. 8-)

after I posted, I realized that too. I do hope they don't go with an angel or something else. I want a nice, good vampire show that I can watch weekly:)

Heh, well, while on the one hand I want to give it my full "benefit of the doubt" and hope it maybe something very original, I can't help turning over what sort of unoriginal thing they might be trying to tease people with using that vague description of him. I know that one of the kinds of supernatural that have been getting attention lately are Nephilim -- half-angels. There was one as the monster in a Sci-Fi Channel movie, and one as a cute kid on ABCFamily. That could be a Fox Nephilim cop show, or it could be a vampire cop show, or it could be some guy that drank some magical potion he's been spending the last few centuries wishing he'd never touched. I sure don't know from that. X_X

*Snorts.* I already had someone else on my flist asking if it gave them a Highlander/Forever Knight rip-off vibe. I'll tell you the same thing I told them. I wasn't sure what to make of Highlander when it first debuted, vampires I was use to, but Highlander Immortals were different. Since that description is vague about how the cop is immortal I don't have enough to go on personally. I'll add a thought I've had since I told her that, my guess based solely on the writer-producer team's last project having been Miracles is that he might be of the angel/fallen angel variety. But...

It's the yo-yo phenomenon: every 10 years or so, people with money remember that how fun they are to play with. Same goes for tv, apparently :)
