Or something like that [g]
There's the fic that gets recced and nominated for awards... and then there's the rest. If your fic, like mine, falls into 'the rest', then that's where the The Great Unsung Fic New Year's Party of 2006 comes in!
Here's the plan: if you wrote something in 2006 that you were really proud of, but you're pretty sure that no one other than maybe your mother read it, then rec your fic in the comments. Tell us a bit about it, and include a link, of course. And if you read something this year by another authour that you thought didn't get nearly enough love, then you can rec that too (If you aren't positive the story you want to rec was written in 2006, that's fine. It's not like I have minions that are going to go check!). Or you can rec your own fic and someone else's! And more than once too! I'm easy.
I figure it will provide some reading entertainment for those of us who aren't going out for the holiday, and spread some New Year love around for some of the lonely fic out there.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! So don't be shy -- your fic is counting on you!
Jan 1, 2007: I'm going to put a link to this over on the sidebar so I don't lose the post before I have a chance to work through the links. And to remind me so I repeat this in December with a little more notice and organization :)
And second note.. if you want to rec vids, go ahead. Let's spread unsung love all over.

Date: 2006-12-31 11:02 pm (UTC)From:The Touch (http://brynnamorgan.livejournal.com/2006/02/20/) was extremely different from anything I'd read about my favorite cranky doctor, something I took great pride in. The fic contains elements of the supernatural and spiritual.
However, my feelings are that because the female lead was an OFC I didn't get the readership that a canon pairing would have. I have, however, received a *lot* of compliments, some from other OFC authors. One said that mine had set "The Gold Standard" for OFC's, which I found immensely flattering.
Judge for yourself, especially if you're a House fan. Then let me know what you think. :-)
Title: The Touch (http://brynnamorgan.livejournal.com/2006/02/20/)
Author: Linda/Brynna/Brynnamorgan
Rating: PG-13 to NC-17 for Graphic Sex and Language
Categories: Romance/Supernatural/AU
Characters: House/OFC
Fandom: House MD
Spoilers: A bit of "Three Stories"
AU because it strays from canon after “Honeymoon,” omits occurrences in some Season 2 episodes and takes place in the days prior to and including Labor Day, 2006.
Disclaimers: I do not own, possess, or claim the characters presented herein, House, the Ducklings, Cuddy, Wilson et al. That stroke of luck belongs to David Shore and the Fox Network. Does anyone seriously think I could be making money from this drivel?
The OFC (Other Female Character) of Sabrina Wallace, her band Whistle Stop, her son Michael, housekeeper Elaine and other fictional folks do belong to me. Steal ‘em and I’ll beat you over the head with my cane. ;-)

Date: 2006-12-31 11:39 pm (UTC)From:Her fic is here at the LJ's but not very organized. A much easier route to go is at Freedom of Speech (http://www.w338puq3y.homepage.t-online.de/series.php?seriesid=42), where she's organized her fiction by series and order to be read. It's definitely worth checking out. :-)
The first portions of the series were written in 2005, the rest 2006, so I figure I could get away with posting it here. ;-)
Aw, thanks
Date: 2007-07-09 12:49 pm (UTC)From:Thank you so much! I just found this thread or I'd have replied sooner. I couldn't have done it without your excellent beta-reading and encouragement.

I quite agree. "The Touch" was an absolute joy to read and beta.

An FK Recommendation
Date: 2007-01-01 04:20 am (UTC)From:This is a recommendation for something by someone else, in a fandom now so shrunken that I think most anything in it qualifies as unsung. :-)
If anyone's interested in Forever Knight fanfiction, the most thoroughly episode-like one I read (not that I've read everything) posted in 2006 was PJ's "The Art of Deception (http://www.come-undone.net/pj_stories/art.txt)," a third-season, PG tale, with all the cop-shop, flashback and personal pieces the series formula demanded. (The author's first language is not English, but she writes better in English than many with that advantage.) The story uses Nick's interest in painting, and makes room for every canonical character as an episode would (even Janette -- in flashback, this being third season; but no Schanke). Episode-like fanfiction is my favorite, and this story made me very happy.

For example, I love Cali's most recent effort on headaches - but she got several comments on that one, so, I'd better serve you this one: http://calime33.livejournal.com/40809.html?nc=3 (It might help to know Terri Pratchett's Disk World)
For Mary, a link to a few of her drabbles: http://crazy4rog.livejournal.com/12913.html?nc=2

Date: 2007-01-01 07:53 pm (UTC)From:Crown of Thorns (http://keerawa.slashcity.org/vids/CrownofThorns.zip) - Highlander vid
Duncan MacLeod, a Dark Quickening, and love.
This vid starts with Duncan in Darius' church, after taking Sean Burn's Quickening. He's feeling terrible remorse over what he's done. In an effort to reconnect with who he is, and what matters in his life, Duncan remembers his past loves.
Debra, Tessa, Brian, and Methos get major play time, but so do a number of others. Of course, love and loss are inextricably linked in Duncan's life.
This is a fairly dark and angsty vid, but I find it ultimately uplifting. I never got much feedback on it, and I'm still wondering why.
*grovels* Download, watch, feedback? Pretty please.

Date: 2007-01-01 08:40 pm (UTC)From:First a shortish story I was very fond of, it was my 'anti-Valentine's' fic: First Sunrise (http://ithidrial.livejournal.com/1019.html). It didn't get a single comment, though my LJ was really new at the time, so that probably didn't help. The year is 2163 and it's set on the first morning on a new planet.
Then a longer story: Shattered (http://ithidrial.livejournal.com/1223.html). Again, posted when my LJ was new. As I mentioned in the year end fic meme thing I posted on Friday, this was my most overdue story, finally dealing with Methos' aversion to vampires, and with what Divia did to Triona. This one is a crossover, Highlander/Forever Knight. It's set in the same series as First Sunrise, but that one only has Methos in it. Shattered has FK characters in it as well.
