I was leaving a comment elsewhere, and it reminded me I'd never actually posted about this here as I'd intended back when the last ep of TW aired.
Torchwood is the 21st century version of Blake's 7.
As I was watching the series ender, it occurred to me that TW is a lot like B7. No one, not even the star, is safe. Anyone can die, and they do -- frequently. And there's an underlying thread of hopelessness from beginning to end. As traumatic as the last episode of TW was, it wasn't any Gauda Prime. They need to work a little harder at reaching that particular level of angst, betrayal and blood shed. But they're off to a good start.
Maybe that's why I didn't feel betrayed by the PTBs of TW. I've been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Well, okay, I never did buy the "I went to Gauda Prime and all I got was this bloody t-shirt" shirt, complete with bullet holes [g] But you get the idea! I really regret not buying that shirt....
