The Lamb, Air Date: November 1994

What happens to a kid who hits Immortality before he hits puberty? MacLeod and Richie take in 10-year-old Kenny, who asks for their protection after the fatherly Immortal who was protecting him is beheaded. Kenny, we discover, is not the sweet little lamb he appears to be. He has been Immortal for nearly 800 years, and has survived all that time by convincing other Immortals to take him in and protect him -- and then taking their heads. Kenny tries to get MacLeod, but he is continuously thwarted by the presence of Anne. Kenny attempts to get Anne out of his way, but MacLeod, realizing the truth about Kenny, manages to rescue her. He goes after Kenny to stop him from killing again, but Kenny manages to escape by blending in with a group of innocent children. ~ recap via tv.com

I loved this idea when it was first introduced. And was overjoyed when the character made a re-appearance. The episode had a very vampiric claudia quality, akin to Interview with a Vampire. It really reaffirmed my view that kids are creepy and a mite bit scary. I also applauded the actor for being so black and white with a roll. One minute he's a scared little kid the next he's a ruthless killer. The two are so diametrically opposed and he nailed it.

I liked this episode. IIRC, though, they caught some flack for it--making a kid an Immortal.

The writers liked the kid and would have loved to use him again...but being a kid, he grew. There goes the whole Immortal thing. ;)

Myles Ferguson was 14 when he appeared as Kenny and died in 2000 at 19. It is a shame he didn't appear again. I love Kenny stories.

I understand as well that actor who played the part died in his early twenties, in a car accident, which is sad.

I do agree that he made the part very believable, and it brought up the problem of being forever 10 years old in a world that is constantly changing around you.

I wonder if Immortals would grow emotionally even though they don't physically -- there would be certain hormonal things that would never happen to Kenny, so would the correlating emotional changes happen? You get into the really edgy territory by speculating on whether or not he would develop sexual urges. Just because he hasn't hit puberty doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't feel that impulse.

It also ties in with questions about what an Immortal takes away from a Quickening.

Yeah, I often wondered about the maturity of a child Immortal, whether they were frustrated by the lack of change in their bodies and the lack of respect that "younger" adults would give them over the centuries. Obviously Duncan wanted to protect the child, that's his immediate response. But, he was quick enough to see the inherent evil in this child. He didn't let Kenny's "youth" deter him from acknowledging that this was an evil being that could and probably need to be killed. Plus, I think Duncan would have REALLY hated how Kenny abused the love of the other Immortals that had taken him in. Such a shame about Kenny, especially when you find out his backstory later on and his relationship with Amanda. That one always made me wonder, how long does love last without there being something to feed it? Did Kenny feel romantic love, childish love, or what for Amanda? Hmmmmmmm. It's not one of my favorite episodes. (Too much of Anne in the epi. IMO) But, it does have a lasting impact on the series.

Okay, trying to think here. I loved the episode. I think it was a great idea having a child as an immortal. More than that though, we had someone who was evil in a child's body. And it took awhile for Duncan to catch on. He *wanted* to like and protect this child. It was quite a shock for him to learn that this kid could be as evil as adult immortals like Kalas. That in itself was worth the episode. Then later (in the second episode) for him to find out that Kenny had a tie to Amanda and he had to be nice to the kid....that was priceless.

The actor who played Kenny was very good. All in all, I think they did a good job.

I tried to find a fic that I had found - only a few lines long - hysterical HL/FK xover where LaCroix answers the door to find Kenny waiting to pick up Divia for a date ::eeeeg:: The idea was oh-so squickalicious.

Well, I looked through my fic files on the computer and didn't find it. I'm thinking it might have been one I printed out and put in a notebook and I've no idea if the notebook is her or in the storage unit. :(
