ithildin: (Methos - Regret)
I was talking earlier tonight about....

Methos at Joe's grave, and I'm still sorting through umpteen caps, but I wanted to share these at least tonight:

See what I mean? Why didn't we get to be with Methos during that scene instead of it being wasted as a background shot? Bastards.

I'll try and put some more caps up tomorrow after I've winnowed them down.

*Nods.* I totally see what you mean. I have avoided actually watching the thing, but I figured with screen caps I wouldn't have to listen to what was going on in the foreground. It's nice that at least even buried in the background like that it's pretty obvious Methos is crying. I'm going to have to go hug my Methi now. *Sniffles.*

Thank you so much for sharing. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it either.

I was really frustrated with the director on this part. It speaks partly to Methos' motivation when he goads Duncan and all but asks him to cut his head off. Everyone else is focused on Anna and the celestial voodoo and Methos is over there next to Joe's grave crying and rubbing at his eyes. And what do we get shots of? Red shirts that no one cares about and will die soon anyway.

*sighs*

What is going on in Methos' mind there? And Peter, frankly, was in the background acting his socks off. God this director drives me insane!

I was thinking almost exactly the same thing -- Here's Peter, acting his little socks off and no one paying any attention. Poor him, poor, Methos, and poor us fans.

I think that when Methos got away from cannibal island he went back to the monastery and stayed with Joe. After all, he likely regained his immortality after he got away from the Source and it seems the Elder though that he'd finally be able to die if the bunch of them did their quest. That means they would need a new Elder to keep the secret of the Source. Who better than Methos?

Poor him, poor, Methos, and poor us fans.

That's true. It's heartbreaking on a number of levels.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. They should have given the project to the undead ghost of Ed Wood to direct. It would have turned out better.

Yeah, at least Ed Wood had heart.

I was thinking John Waters, myself. But then, some consider him the undead ghost of Ed Wood so I suppose that makes sense. ^_^

Okay, I'm pissed. I never even noticed this because I was so bored with these other idiots. Now, I must go back and rewatch that scene.

I did notice this. Think it was the second time I watched it but I did see it and wished that we had a close up of him or something.

I made a mention of it in my comments.

More could have been done here.

I can just hear the PTB saying something like "But you see him. You should be happy"

*sighs*

I like that.

Although. Since The Guardian said he was cursed forever because Mac refused to take his head, then I wonder if the Elder wasn't cursed to remain the same as he was.

I just watched it again, yeah I know i"m a glutton for punishment *laughs*, but it seemed like to me that The Elder shared the quickening with the new Guardian when he took the old guardian's head.

That's how maybe they both got cursed and became what they were.

It just looked liked that the quickening caught The Elder up into it to. So if those two are connected somehow and if The Guardian remains cursed forever then doesn't that mean The Elder will to.

If that makes any sense.

I've wondered that as well. There are many possibilities there. If Methos regains his Immortality (or even if he doesn't) and the Elder did not get release, surely he can take the man's head? If the Elder really wants release all that needs to be done is to take him off holy ground and remove his head from his neck. It seems to me he couldn't stop someone if they tried to do so. If Methos is mortal they don't even have to take him off holy ground as Horton hacked Darius on holy ground with no repercussions.

It also begs the question: what about Duncan and Methos since they had a "dual quickening?" Are they connected in a way similar to the Guardian and the Elder? Was that a deliberate juxtaposition on the part of one of the script authors at some point that got buried in translation? Will Methos be bound to Duncan all of his days and share Duncan's fate?

This movie, start to finish, raises so many questions and answers absolutely none. Crazy.

Actually, I think the phrase would be more like, "The show is called Highlander, not Highlander and Methos, or Highlander and Joe, or The Three Musketeers. We must keep the focus where it belongs, on Duncan." And don't think that I don't take that into account or agree with that to a certain extent. But man. They've got really lovely actors there and just waste them. *shakes head*

Hmmm. True.

If the Elder wanted it, and even if he doesn't, then yeah.

But what would happen to Methos.

Mortal Methos:
No problems either way I don't think.

Immortal Methos:
I think I might be afraid of what happend here if Methos got The Elder's quickiening. He might just turn into some version of The Elder or something bad could happen. However something bad might not happen.

But would the connection between The Guardian and The Elder transfer over the quickening to Methos? Would then they be bound together?

Or maybe the connection between Mac and Methos wouldn't make that possible.

I wish they had gone into the shared quickening more between Duncan and Methos. They didn't unfortunatly, but since they made the effort to show us that they shared a quickening, something should have come from it.

And honestly. I think the shared quickening between Mac and Methos threw out the "one" in the whole "There can be only one" thing.

But what was Duncan's fate? I know what the outline epilogue says but they don't show us here. They have a kid yes but what else.

But yeah. Good questions. And your right. Way to many questions than answers in this movie.

I know. *sigh*

And as you said. I agree. They've got these characters that we've all come to love and are apart of HL. Yhey should us them more. And they don't here. Its about Mac I know,. But still....

Joe dies within 40 minutes. And Methos who's there, but isn't used as well as he could be. You can never figure out his true motivation for the whole thing and sometimes in some scenes he's just a wallflower almost.

Plus the other characters, but.. never mind.
