ithildin: (Methos - Leather Profile)
I get myself all twisted around when writing fic trying to decide what to call Methos. If the person who's perspective the story is told from knows him as Adam, and Daniel, but not Methos, should I ever refer to him as Methos? Or do I wait till the perspective changes to either him or someone that knows him by that name?

I had the same problem with the Grey's/HL stories.

I'm a stickler for POV consistency. If we're in the POV of someone who only knows him as Adam or Daniel, that's what I'd call him. If it's really important for the reader to know he's Methos, I'd try to work that into it somehow earlier in the story, maybe starting with Methos' point of view.

Seconded :) It's how the person whose POV it is thinks of him that matters, not his real name.

Thanks, guys. That seemed right, but after a few hours of writing, my brain tends to get itself all twisty :)

Thirded. I think he might think of himself as Methos -- on the other hand, it would be interesting if he DIDN'T think of himself as Methos, but as whatever persona he's adopted.

Speaking strictly as a reader of Fic, the POV of the person telling the story is the most important. So if they know him as Adam, Adam he be, not Methos.
