A day early, but what the heck? I love this episode, well, to death! So I figured it deserved an extra day of discussion.

Welcome to the eighth installment of Methos Episode Discussion. You can find the last one for 'Through a Glass, Darkly' here. All episode discussion links can be found over on the sidebar.

Till Death, Air Date: May. 1996

When Gina and Robert de Valicourt met 300 years ago, even Gina's suitors MacLeod and Fitzcaim had to admit they were destined for each other. Each century, as Robert and Gina renewed their wedding vows before their friends and fellow Immortals, their love grew stronger. But now their marriage is on the rocks. MacLeod decides it's up to him to reunite the once happy couple, and he enlists a very unwilling accomplice in his cunning plan. ~ via tv.com

Next up will be Judgement Day. Look for it on Monday.

Quotes below the curtain

Methos: The apartment I'm renting is being sold. I hate moving.
Duncan: Then move into a hotel.
Methos: I wouldn't live in any hotel Adam Pierson could afford.
________________________

Gina: It's over - the son of a bitch (Methos) is dead.
Duncan: No, no! It was all a joke it...
(Methos pops up on the barge)
Duncan: Not funny!
Methos: Oh I don't know, pretty funny from here.
Duncan: Oh yeah? Maybe I should take your head.
_________________________

MacLeod: With friends like you, who needs enemies?
Methos: I was just thinking the same thing!
_________________________

Methos: I knew it. I knew it! Getting between a married couple. It's a rule I haven't broken for 2000 years!
_________________________

Gina: Maybe we aren't meant to spend three centuries together. I mean...who mates for life? Swans? Geese? Lobster?
__________________________

Robert: She's leaving me, Mac. She's really leaving...she divided up the record collection.
MacLeod: The vinyl?!
__________________________

Methos: You're not listening to me, I don't give a damn about their marriage.
Duncan: Well I do!
Methos: Is it really that important to you?
Duncan: Yes it's that (bops Methos on the head) important to me.
Methos: All right...I do this for you, and you give me the barge.
__________________________

Gina: I gave you the best centuries of my life.
___________________________

Methos: (looking at Duncan's CD collection) Opera... opera... opera... opera. A lot of opera here. Better do something about this music. There's no Springsteen, there's no Queen...
___________________________

Methos: You're wasting your time. I haven't felt guilt since the eleventh century.

I just got home from work - where's the discussion? *looks around*

Till Death - The Flirting Episode. The episode where Duncan officially bats his eyelashes at Methos in canon. Where he pouts and bops and plays for one whole show.

It's also a Fitz show which makes it loads of fun. I wish Fitz hadn't been whacked before Methos came on board - I would have loved to seen those two meet one another. Of course, had the writers thought of it - they could have had them meet in a flashback way back when> That would have been fun too.

You're first!

There's just so much I love about this episode, the Methos and Duncan interaction being at the top of my list. Next up would be Gina and Robert -- I wish we'd seen them again. Fitz is always fun, and I would have liked to have seen a scene with Methos and him as well. It occurs to me that Duncan gets to be goofy in this episode both in the past and the present. I think Methos is good for Duncan, he takes the edge off of Duncan's propensity to be so serious and stuffy. He needs people around him, he needs his friends, or he becomes brooding hermit guy :) (not that I'm at all familiar with that sort of behavior at all, of course [ahem])

Duncan and Methos just had so much fun. Of course Duncan and Fitz did too. I think things had been tough for both Duncan and methos and I'm glad they had some down time.

I agree that Robert and Gina were a fun couple too. It would have been great if they had been back again.

Did you notice Methos' hand before they mentioned it on the dvd extras?

Nope, I'm pretty sure that I didn't, at least not that it stood out enough for me to remember. Heh.

Nope, not until they mentioned it, but then the eyes, couch sprawl, legs askew, well I was focusing elsewhere.

I agree. They both appear very much at ease in this episode. The light comedy worked well. I loved the bop on the head thing. Also, some of the lines and looks were great. Like when Duncan really believed that Gina had killed "Adam". Or the ending with the vase and broom. I just loved the way Methos walked off as Duncan gropes for something to say about the broken vase.

Never got the Robert thing, really did not see the attraction, but overall a good episode.

who me? I'm too tired to party and I have to work tonight. But we really must talk about some of the by-play between Duncan and Methos. I mean - Duncan actually gave methos the keys to his barge.

And Methos was going through Duncan's things (his sheets yet) and he caused Duncan to drop an expensive Ming vase. And the bopping on the head and the puppy dog eyes and the pouting. And the panic when he thought Gina was going after his lover friend.

I love this episode! I think this is my favorite episode after "Chivalry." It's just so much fun, from that first scene in which Duncan finds Methos meditating in his barge. I love how Methos asks Duncan if there's anything good in the mail. Duncan looks slightly annoyed at the invasion of his privacy, but also, not.

I love how he cajoles Methos into helping him. Duncan cajoles Methos an awful lot. :-)

Another favorite line: "Where's your sense of drama?" And then, *plunge* with the sword.

Back during one of the other episode posts, I said that Methos has a knack for that sort of thing. He does seem to enjoy getting under Duncan's skin. Well, after all, he is 'easily amused' :)

I love how he cajoles Methos into helping him. Duncan cajoles Methos an awful lot. :-)

LOL, he does! And despite the old guy's many protests, I have a sneaking suspicion that he rather likes being needed.

Another favorite line: "Where's your sense of drama?" And then, *plunge* with the sword.

I love that part!

Not to mention when Methos runs away after he runs robert through and Duncan goes after him - then there's that little scene where Duncan is trying to get Methos to go and Methos is standing there arguing with Duncan and it is so cute.

Oh yeah - and in the car when Duncan tells Gina it is a new immortal after Robert's head *g*

Date: 2006-05-17 09:00 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ekaterinn.livejournal.com
I love the cajoling! One gets the sense that Methos rather enjoys it too. I also liked how Methos tells Robert he hates boats and water, which highlights the playfulness of Methos asking for the barge in payment. *g*

Date: 2006-05-17 09:51 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] eveningblue.livejournal.com
Yes, the whole asking for the barge thing, and playing at being the new owner, is hilarious.

There's that one tiny moment when Methos shoos Duncan away so he can sit at the desk, and put his feet up on it, that I love. And the looks he gives Duncan! And the faux furiousness of Duncan's response. Too much!

Another fave line: "I'm an act-or, dahling!"

This is one of my favourite episodes too! I love the Valincourts and the ease of Methos's and Duncan's friendship here. Methos seems very willing to be talked into Duncan's schemes - and work his own mischief with the barge thing. From a slashy POV, I was struck how Methos's dropping of the vase at the end of the episode paralleled Gina's at the beginning.

*goes back to reading for thesis. really.*

This is one of my faves - I love everything about it, including the guest stars, the Valincourts. PW and AP always had great chemistry, and it was especially evident here. This must be the episode which inspired a thousand fan ficcers to write about Duncan pouting and batting his eye lashes. And PW has some of his best methosian lines in this.

Definitely some great lines in this one, and great banter!

Until I encountered slash I'm afraid to say that I never thought of any other possibilities though, regardless of the lash-batting. I can kind of see it now, but it's still more like a pair of blokes taking the piss out of each other to me.

I just thought it was fun that Duncan was so used to Methos giving him shit that he was comfortable enough to dish it right back, like he'd finally twigged the "just a guy" routine :)

Even though I've been aware of slash for decades, I saw it the same way you did.

Love that. Now off on a random tangent here... something we take for granted: having a best friend/pal/buddy. How hard must that be for Immortals, to have another Immortal as that person? There has to be a real level of trust in that sort of relationship, especially hard in the beginning.

Well, I get the impression that at cons PW and AP are a couple of blokes who enjoy "taking the piss out of each other" - but as Duncan and Methos they have great chemistry.

I loved this episode!

So many things were great (my first introduction to Fitz) - what a guy! the fake sword fight, the end of the "not so fake" sword fight, the whole "mating for life" and vinyl debate

You're wasting your time. I haven't felt guilt since the eleventh century.

Such a great line.

Can't really think of much more (depressed just drove into the back of someone) enjoying reading others thoughts.
