I have loved the Firefox addon for years, but today, I started seeing ads everywhere. I investigate, and come to find they're allowing 'unobtrusive' ads. Except it seems that unobtrusive to them means all ads! GRR! Looked at some forum threads and followed suggestions, like installing the older version of the add on, but nothing worked. Someone suggested Ghostery, which I just installed, so we'll see how that works.

I just checked a site notorious for ads and AdBlock for Chrome is still working fine. (Had to dump Firefox when I went over to the laptop; kept it for the new desktop. I like it a lot. Much faster.) Thought you might be interested.

From what I gather, they're rolling it out over different platforms at intervals.

You can disable that feature. Click the Adblock Plus icon and choose "Filter Preferences" from the menu. Uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising" and you're done.

Oh, yeah, I did that. No dice. That's when I got really frustrated! Reading some of the threads on the addon forum, it seems that that does not necessarily block all ads. After wasting two hours messing with it I gave up.

Aw. :-(

That's really odd, because when I did that and restarted Firefox, I stopped seeing all ads. I wonder what the difference is?

Wish I knew. I clicked and unclicked and restarted in various combos. Will try using it in a few months and see if it works again. Currently, Ghosterly seems to be working really well.

*raises a hand* If I'm not being rude by interjecting... Perhaps the difference is in version of Firefox/version of Adblock? Or the list it uses to block ads in the first place?

*nods*

That would make sense. For what it's worth, I'm using the latest version of Firefox (albeit with add-on compatibility check turned off via about:config), AdBlock 2.1.2, and the EasyList filters.

Meh, I love Firefox, but sometimes I just want to smack it upside the head.
