Just thought I'd report in on the Thai food experiment. It was okay, but not anything I'd have again, which is pretty much what I've said the few times I've had Thai food before. I think I've finally realized what it is though -- it's too 'sweet' tasting. I don't like food that's sweet, unless it's dessert. I think I'll stick with Malaysian, Japanese, and Chinese Schezwan style.

I had Malaysian for the first time this weekend and OMG. So good.

I think your Asian food preferences run similar to mine, because I like Japanese, good Chinese food and not so much the stuff they call Chinese food at the little takeout places here, but from like, Chinatown and stuff, and now Malaysian. And Vietnamese, a bit. But Thai is mehhhhhhhhhh, and I think yeah, possibly because it can be a little too sweet.

Isn't it? I wish we actually had a Malaysian restaurant here. I'd eat out more often [g]

As far as Chinese, I love Kung Pau sauce and I like Chicken with Orange Peel, the spicy Schezwan one. The beef version is good too.

Now I'm hungry!

To be honest I've never had much beyond Pad Thai Noodles but I have it on good authority that Thai food in Thailand is amazing.
I'm more of a Japanese gal myself and I absolutely can't get enough of Korean kim-chee, especially in soup, fortunately I'm good friends with a Korean so supplies are readily available *g*.

I've never had Korean, I'm afraid.

There's a few Phillipino dishes I've had that I quite liked.

Never tried Phillipino, not many Phillipino restaurants in the UK outside London. Wouldn't mind giving it a go one day tho, I've enjoyed most cuisines I've tried. I just tend to lean toward Eastern/Buddhist cuisine because I'm mostly vegetarian (I eat fish for my arthritis).
My food fantasy is to visit the fish markets in Goa.

Loving the icons btw.

If you like spicy stuff then you'll probably enjoy kim-chee, it's a v. spicy pickled cabbage.

Heh! I'll eat just about anything as long as it isn't fish [g]

Thanks! I have quite a collection.

REAL Thai food isn't supposed to be sweet (unless its one of them dishes with mango or something). Most of them 'westernise' it though, which is a shame cos I just adore them.

Hot, spicy, sour stuff...

And yay Malaysian! I'm Malaysian, so yeah, our food ROCKS. :D

It may just be me. I always think things are too sweet, seems to be the way my tastebuds lean. I was given a cup of herbal tea the other day. It had no sweetener of any kind and I couldn't drink it -- tasted like hummingbird food [g]

LOL! I've only had it a few times since there isn't a Malaysian place here, but I love it muchly! I probably should look for a Malaysian cookbok and just make it myself.

I adore Thai food. It is one of the things I miss most about living in this tiny town. I have to drive to Dallas to get good Thai food. I love the chicken satay and that divine peanut sauce. I am also a big fan of pad see ewe. I like Japanese teryaki chicken, but not sushi. My problem with most Chinese food is that they fry everything. Somehow Thai food is just more fresh and healthy.
