Now, really, most people back then most likely smelled and had bad teeth but I'm pretty sure pirates ate even worse than the rest. But they got to play with cannons and sail ships and they didn't have to deal with Navy superiors. I've often wondered whether over all in a lifetime one would make more money from pirate swag or from prize money.
