I've Scottish Country Danced for years and have never heard the term 'wibble'. Perhaps it's a regional thing?

Likely. All I know is that at one point in a dance, the dance mistress told us to "wibble in place" and I did the wrong thing but couldn't figure out what the right thing was. But then again, things like that happened to me a lot this season - having never danced before ... well, since we did the folk dance class in gym in the 5th grade (which was gle long ago!)

I grew up with the phrase 'acting the maggot' - (usually used when I was being especially hyperactive and bouncy) and I always thought it was named after the pupae (because they wriggle, you know) - as an adult, however, I discovered it was a name for a particularly energetic country dance (like a jig or reel) and that was where the phrase came from...

Which makes a lot more sense, come to think of it!
