Let's play another 'Ith is bored at work, so entertain her' game! (A little wordy, but I like it)

If you could convince me to read one piece of fic, what would it be, and why? It can be yours, or somebody else's, and while it would probably help convince me if I had some familiarity with the fandom, feel free to go wild and convince me to read something I don't have a single clue about! Y'all are creative that way.

I think I might suggest you read this (http://jd-divas.com/biblio/flyboy01.shtml).

I warn you, it's slash. Which may not bother you, but I am not a slash fan. I am resigned, however, to reading some slash in my endless quest for good fanfic. And this is good.

It's funny. It makes gentle sport of fanfic, fan culture, slash fic, Mary Sues, and is generally a riot. In my humble opinion, at least.

Short version: Jack O'Neill, in a very slashy relationship with someone, discovers a) the Sentinel, and b) fanfic. He immediately concludes that he can do better. Hijinks, as they say, ensue.

You almost had me with Jack O'Neill, then you lost me with slash [g] Sounds like quite a story though!

Anything I would suggest would be slash, so I'm just going to sing for you.

La la la la la la laaaaaaa!

And did I tell you that your angel looks a lot like [personal profile] ninjababe? Really, she does. *g*

Oh, and I can tap dance too, but it isn't pretty. Sorry.

Actualize This!

Okay, then. Try this.

Daniel Jackson & Jack O'Neill, Jim & Blair (The Sentinel) and Darien and Bobby (The Invisible Man) all are forced to attend a seminar "to improve interpersonal skills in military and law-enforcement personnel" and quickly become the Guys In The Back Of The Room (and solve a little mystery while they're at it). Guaranteed Not-Slash.

Do you think so? I hadn't noticed, but I suppose I can see it :)

Thank you for the lovely musical interlude! [g]

I don't know if you read this before, when I recced it, or if Farscape is your cup of tea but I loved this little story, in which Rodney McKay ends up on Moya - Crooked Paths (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=5705) by [livejournal.com profile] themonkeycabal [PG]

Another one I recced was a Sam/Rodney futurefic called The same boy you've always known (http://community.livejournal.com/ottercrossing/2435.html) by [livejournal.com profile] svendra [PG] - I should tell you it has a character death in it, but it's so incredibly written; it's probably the only fanfic I've ever read that actually made me cry!

That was fun! I've only ever seen one episode of Sentinel and I never could remember their names and to this day I call them 'Hair Guy' and 'Grumpy Guy'.

Will check them out!

Yeah, one of the reasons I liked that story was that if you didn't know some of the characters (and I've never seen Invisible Man and only a few eps of Sentinel), you knew as much about them as the other characters did. Jack and Daniel were my viewpoint characters, so what they saw (or surmised) is what I knew too.

I enjoyed both of those. Thanks for the recs! I can't remember the last time I read so much fic.
