So I was trying to explain the attraction of Doctor Who to [livejournal.com profile] mischief5 last night, who'd noticed the explosion of squee! this last weekend on her f'list. At some point, I used the phrase 'piƱata of slashiness' and then it just got silly from there [g] I won't even begin to describe what we did to Duncan in the process! Some things are better left to the imagination.

In other news... hmmm, there is no other news!

I wonder if it's a thing you have to be infected with during childhood? I grew up with Who, it was my favourite programme as a child, and when it started up again, I began watching more for nostalgia's sake... I thought it was delightful, but I didn't start actually getting fangirly about New Who until mid-way through the second season - and the third season?

Well, I think I'm in danger of it eating my brain...

...and liking it, too :-P

I first saw it when I was in my late teens, in the video room at a con. Not long after, it started airing at midnight on Saturdays. Tom Baker's Doctor. Me or my mum would bake apple danish, and me, my brother and my mum would watch it. And they did two hours every Saturday.

When we moved back to CA, I started going to Who cons. I have a t-shirt that says 'So Many Timelords, So Little Time'.

*Laughs* And the cycle goes on, I've been minding a friend's son for the last few days (she's trotted off to Glastonbury, lucky thing)and he's a total fanboy (and six, in case you were wondering).

I've been really evil and let him watch some of my 'classic' Who DVDs, so he's now familiar with three, four and five (he likes Romana, by the way :-P)

He's even doing meta! He was watching over my shoulder earlier on, while I was on LJ, and remarked as he looked at the Doctor Who icons, ever so casually: "Martha is a survivor, because she's still alive, Rose just got sucked up!"

*snerk*

Wise young man!

Do you know, I have an autographed postcard of the Master (Anthony Ainley) that he sent me in response to a thank you note I sent him after a con. He even wrote a nice little note with it.

Oh, that's so sweet, i never get that lucky - although, I did meet Paul Cornell a couple of times, as he visits the conventions in Dublin regularly. Does that count? Lovely bloke!
