Friday is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition, and Nin and I are going to a Speak Easy party being thrown by Ventana Vineyards -- there's even a secret password to get in!
Found this celebratory cocktail today:
Most recipes for this cocktail call for it to be served up, but I much prefer it over. A little bit of water from the ice melting does not detract at all - this is a strong drink.
French 75 Champagne Cocktail
1 and one half ounces Sarticious Gin
1 and one half ounces fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons of sugar
4 ounces Marguet Pere et Fils Rosé Champagne
Plenty of ice
1 maraschino cherry
1 curled orange peel
1 teaspoon maraschino cherry liquid from cherry jar
In a short glass, combine the lemon juice, gin and sugar. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Fill a 12-ounce glass half full of ice, add the maraschino cherry liquid from cherry jar, gin, lemon and sugar mixture and top with rosé Champagne. Stir once more, add the maraschino cherry and curled orange peel for garnish.
