[livejournal.com profile] ninjababe and I finally went to a Cedar City Wine Club event. and we even talked to people!! Scary and strange, I know. It was held at the Iron Gate B&B, which is a lovely property. I now have a lodging recommendation for visitors in the area. And the occasion this time was the opening of the Iron Gate Winery - only one in the area. You have to go to Moab for the next one. I'd found out about the club via a Twitter followee, Larry the Wine Guy - another former Californian. It was nice putting a real face to the Twitter handle!

It's a nice setup - you bring a bottle of wine, and food to share. I tried something new, as our pears were just ready to be picked, and did a caramelized pear & sage crostini, with my own added touch of a little homemade pear liqueur in the pot whilst cooking. It came out quite nicely, if i do say so myself! And not just me - it got polished off. I'm always nervous bringing food, so I'm glad it turned out well.

This morning, I woke up with a crappy head cold, so am miserable. At least it held off till today.

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] easilymused1956 for reccing Bottle Shock! When I looked it up after you'd mentioned it, I saw it was only $10 at Amazon, so I ordered. We watched it last night, and just loved it! For me, it was hugely nostalgia. That's the Napa of my childhood, before it was a pricey 'destination'. I remember going to the state park in Calistoga with a picnic lunch, and after, I'd explore the pioneer cemetery there. Then we'd go to Beringer for the tour of the wine aging tunnels, which I loved - it was always so cool in there compared to the summer heat outdoors. It all made me very homesick for California. Also had a bit of a crossover moment when Alan Rickman and Eliza Dushku had a scene together. Throw in Chris Pine and it was a Harry Potter/Buffy/Star Trek mash!

We just got back from our Repeal Day party. Good food, fine conversation, and great wine was had by one and all!

Friday is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition, and Nin and I are going to a Speak Easy party being thrown by Ventana Vineyards -- there's even a secret password to get in!
