Earlier in the week, I created a bit of a meme, one of those 'ask me anything' ones. And some people on my f'list snagged it for their LJs, where I asked the same question. [livejournal.com profile] holde_maid and [livejournal.com profile] calime33 were like virtual tour guides in their responses!

The question: Tell me something about where you live. What you like best, something I might not know, bits of trivia. Whatever you like.

I love to travel, and I love learning about my friends, and about new places. so this is a lovely combo!

Every year, Madison has the "Art Fair on the Square". Wonderful artists of all types of media set up booths around the Capital Square the weekend after Fourth of July. There's also the "Art Fair Off the Square", with more booths running down side streets to the north and south of the Square, and the Farmer's Market running along State Street. They also have live music at every corner, lots of wonderful food from all around the world, exotic cold drinks (no alcohol!), and a variety of entertainment. The best time to go is Saturday morning/afternoon.

We went every year since we moved here except the last two, when Mom was so ill, but I think I'll go again this year. I probably won't buy anything (it's rather expensive), but it will be a good way to remember Mom and the fun we had just looking. :)

Bremerton is surrounded by water. We're technically in the middle of a fjord out here in Puget Sound. Every single time I go to the water, particularly at Illahee State Park, my favorite beach. I've been there and seen so many neat little eddies and tides. You can see the ferries on their routes back and forth from downtown Bremerton to downtown Seattle. And the smells...Most people don't like the smell of the brackish water here, but to me, it's a wonderful smell [unless it's UBER hot out]. It makes me feel very at home here...

I love that smell! We used to live in Port Angeles and Port Townsend. I really miss the Pacific Northwest.

Asheville is beautiful in the Fall. The mountains burst into a myriad of color. My favorite sound is the crash of waves against the beach. I love to road trip. ;)

We nearly moved to Asheville! I loved it there. One of the prettiest places I've ever visited.

I know that's one of the reasons why my parents moved here. And I really love this place, so I don't see hubby or me moving any time soon. ;)

I love the fall here. Too beautiful for words.

The Spanish moss hanging from the oak trees line one of the main streets through town. The sight is a beautiful in person as it is in any picture you could find. The bird girl doesn't reside in her original location, but you can still see her. My city was even given as a Christmas present to a president one year. :D

Have I given enough clues? LOL

Poole is in the beautiful county of Dorset and boasts the world's largest natural harbour. For years we were second to Sydney, but then they discovered that part of Sydney Harbour is actually man-made, so now Poole holds the title.
Also home to the (allegedly) world-famous Poole Pottery and one of the few remaining places in the UK where you can find the native Red Squirrel (sadly the population was decimated by the arrival of their more aggressive American cousin the Grey Squirrel about 150yrs ago).
That's where I live. When I'm not in Liverpool.:)

It is lovely, I count myself very lucky that my parents moved here from Wales when I was little.

Madison is on an Isthmus - A strip of land between two bodies of water.

We have more restaurants, per capita, than any other city in the country (at least, this was true a few years ago.) We have an amazing assortment of ethnic restaurants - I can never get enough of them.

We have the most *awesome* libraries - Our public system is incredible and then there are the college libraries and the Historical Library. People fly in from all over to use the Historical Library for genealogy research - It's a close rival to the LDS in Salt Lake.

The Capitol Building: Do *not* miss the Capitol Building - they have free tours that bring you in to many of the government rooms but even if you don't, it's the most spectacularly beautiful building... It's so worth taking a few minutes to see.

Can you tell that I LOVE MY CITY???

Howdy, neighbor! I live on that isthmus! And I can see the Capitol Building out my window. Great place to live --except in the winter. (Transplanted Southerner here.)

I live on the near east side (by the Avenue Bar) and if it weren't for that tree they planted across the street a few years ago, I'd have a Capitol view as well. :::grrr::: Still, in the winter I can still see it a little.

I *love* the winter and fled California to return to the midwest because I missed the seasons so much. The only thing I hate is this hot humid stuff we've been getting this past month. Bleh!

I'm on the near west side, just off campus by Meriter Park.

My parents were born and raised here. Mom went to East High and when they dated, they often went to the Avenue Bar. They left in '58, Mom and I came back in '93 (the year they seperated) so she could be close by her folks. They're all gone now so when I finish my degree, I'll be moving on. It's a lovely city but there's nothing to keep me here now.

the weather. I'm not joking.

The weekend forecast was:
"Cloudy with sunbreaks. Cooler than yesterday, with scattered showers and chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon."

That's just lyrical. Sunbreaks! I live in a place with SUNBREAKS! And afternoon thunderstorms. Where the morning fog rises up from the Sound and sinks down from the hilltops until the entire city is shrouded.

It's inspiring, really.

Oh, I believe you! I much prefer the weather we had when we lived in the PNW than the weather here. Here it's fog, fog, and more fog. I'll take rain then actual sun any old day!
