ithildin: (Taste - Tea)
We treated ourselves to dinner out last night, and decided to try an Iranian place that opened a few months ago. I'm fond of Jordanian and Lebanese food, but hadn't had Iranian before. It was very well cooked food, but just not to my taste. Very bland. But then we got to dessert, and thins looked up. along with dessert, we ordered to glasses of hot Persian tea and it was lovely! The owners kept coming by to check on us, and when they discovered we loved the tea, they offered to sell us a box of it. They were quite surprised I owned many teapots and only drink tea. Then the wife had to show me how to make it. She didn't speak a lot of English, but we managed. Basically, you just steep it like regular tea (it's n Earl Grey variation), but the unique bit is you take two cardamom pods and grind them with a mortar and pestle, and put them in with the tea. It's yummy as heck!

Now, in the restaruant, they serve the tea with cardamom candy that you suck on whilst drinking the tea. Very nifty! When we left, they gave us a little packet of cardamom pods to take home with us for the tea. It was a great experience!

Other than that, it was a quiet weekend. Sunday, we went to Macy's so Nin could get a purse, and I looked for a dress, but didn't see anything I liked. Saturday, I saw Die Hard for the first time, and we watched Doctor Who. Friday, I actually got a little bit written for the next part of 'I Remember You Not Fondly. And of course, I spent a lot of timing tweaking the new comm, [livejournal.com profile] highland_cross all through the weekend.

That sounds great! I love cardamom. And yay for them giving you some to take home, too. Cardamom is pretty expensive.

a former roommate used to grind cardamom pods with coffee beans. It's quite good.

How neat! I, too, have heard of putting cardamom in coffee, but not in tea--unless possibly it's in Indian tea.

I use cardamom myself when making lemon or lime chutney. Which I need to make more of now that I have a bag of key limes.
