Day 01 - A show that should have never been canceled: Christy.
Christy was a series back in 1994, based on the novel of the same name, starring Kellie Martin, Tyne Daly (who won an Emmy for her role), and Stewart Finlay-McLennan. I'd enjoyed the novel when I was a teenager, but I adored the TV series. It had both Tyne Daly and Kellie Martin, two actresses that I was a fan of, with the added bonus of hunky Scots actor Stewart Finlay-McLennan (hey, I'm shallow!), plus, it was set in the early 20th century and filmed on location in Tennessee. But more than that, the show had heart and soul. This was about real people, who had lived a century before, and it took an unflinching look at poverty in 1912 Appalachia. As an added bonus, there was burning UST between Christy and Neil, that thanks to the show being canceled, was never resolved. This is a show I can watch over and over again, and never tire of it. It was joyful, heartbreaking, and full of love.
Why was it canceled? Well, you see, CBS also had Touched By an Angel, and it was decided that they only wanted one 'Christian show', and TBAA was cheaper to produce, not being a period piece, or a show filmed on location. So Chrsty got the axe so Angel could keep flitting around the countryside. I'm still bitter - can you tell? :P
They finally put out cheap, no extra DVDs a few years back, so I was able to replace my very worn, taped of the TV copies. They also made a miniseries a few years back, picking up where they left off. The only original cast member back was Stewart, but it just didn't have the magic of the original cast. Well, that's what the imagination is for :)
