No More Dan

Finally officially announced by the PWFC via Peter's agent:

"We can now confirm that Peter has completed all his filming
obligations with the BBC for Holby City, and is back at home in Los
Angeles. The year has been the most extraordinary period work-wise -
exciting, challenging and lots of fun. Personally, it's been very
hard being so far away from family for such a long period. It's full
steam ahead, therefore, in the search for the next role."

A bit later: somebody on one of the Holby forums said he finished filming three weeks ago, and will only be on till mid October. So this is a double bummer if true, since I thought he'd at least be on episodes till late November.

[sigh] yeah. I really shouldn't have let myself get attached to the character and into the show knowing this was the likely outcome, but I did anyway.

As happy as I am for Peter and his family, I will admit to being sad for myself.

I did get more into Holby than I ever expected to. Dan is my favorite character right now and I will really miss seeing him every week.

I just hope Peter gets some great movie roles ( and for me, a great regular role on a weekly series—any series. [If Peter’s character could get me interested in Holby, than Peter’s character can get me interested in anything.])

Yeah, I really, really hope he doens't go back to doing guest roles on series I've never seen before. Something regular would be wonderful now that I'm thoroughly spoiled at seeing so much of him.

We had to know this was coming. He all but said it in his last video diary plus his confirmation for Philly AND Vancouver. Now the big question will be: how are they going to get rid of Dan?

Hopefully he'll just get another job and they won't trash the character. I hate it when soaps do that as a way to get some sort of comeuppance.

I hope the possibility will still be there for Peter to do a guest shot if he has the opportunity. Losing Dan completely would be sad.

I have no idea why this has me as bummed out as it does. I guess I wasn't as primed for the news as I thought I was. It's like my favourite show just got canceled or something.

It's funny. Dan took hold of my imagination the first time he twirled those scalpels. I just don't want to give him up. Not that I don't enjoy him in other parts, and I adore him as Methos.

Dan just also seemed to be a part he threw himself into and made his own. Maybe he only agreed for the one year; maybe it was too hard being away from his family (and I can empathize with that). Whatever his reasons, I'm sure they were good ones.

I do hope that Jac gets her comeuppance before he leaves, and I'll be sorry if it's Connie who forces him out. I'd like him to leave in dignity, but this is a soap opera and we can't count on that.

He only did Noah's Ark for one series, didn't he?

Yeah, it's like having a favorite show cancelled or having someone twist that show into something you don't want to watch. All the little pleasures--I know it's only a tv show, but the little pleasures I miss, not the big ones.
