Not Really?!?!

We had a plumber coming Wednesday to put in a new hot water heater, but he never showed. Near the end of the day, he called to say he'd gotten held up on another job, but he'd be there Thursday morning. He finally shows up Thursday, mum says to hang on a sec while she locks the cats up, and he says, oh, I'm allergic to cats, I can't do the job. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're a plumber who is so allergic to cats you can't work in a house with them, and you didn't think you should mention that WHEN WE MADE THE APPOINTMENT!?!?!? So now, we have to find another plumber. That's when I remembered I'd been given a free membership to Angie's List, since they're new in the market here, and need to build up reviews. And thankfully, it isn't one of the sites blocked at work. I start texting mum the numbers of well rated plumbers. Unfortunately, most of them are waaaaay more expensive that stupid cat guy, and we'd barely put the money together for his bid. Finally, on plumber number 4, we got a bid that was more, but not so much more it made us faint. He was dumbfounded about cat allergy guy. So, at 8AM this morning, he was here, and we now HAVE HOT WATER!!!

Damn, now I feel better about my situation this week. I came home the other afternoon and found my hot water heater busted and my kitchen flooded. Luckily, we've used the same plumber for several years. I called him and he came right over. Very nice guy and since I was an established customer he didn't charge me for coming after hours.

The allergic to cats thing is just ridiculous and I would put in a word to the BBB.

We'd never used a plumber here before. Glenn's been able to take care of everything that's come up so far. Glad you got yours fixed so swiftly.

Ya can't tell me that this guy never encounters cats at other job sites? Weirdo! There are drugs for that--I mean for the allergies, ha!

My wall heaters were broken for the first three weeks of cold weather this year -- and I accidentally caused a power outage by using a space heater and the microwave at the same time -- until the apartment complex's new maintenance technician moved in and spent an hour with them and me (bless him). (The previous maintenance technician told me to use the space header "instead.")

Aside: I'm pretty allergic to cats, myself, but the pharmaceutical industry is more than happy to sell medicines that let me hang out in the vicinity of cats for hours at a time, and I carry them in my purse at all times, just in case. That plumber was many types of peculiar.

YAY for hot water! Plumber due #1 sounds like he's more than half a bubble off plumb. If you're that allergic to cats, you mention it UP FRONT. WTH would he have done if your mom hadn't mentioned them, and hadn't locked them up, and he started work and then one wandered over to inspect his work?

Old Cohan would tell you that hot water is one of the three most important things in life (besides a good dentist and soft toilet paper).
I would agree with him if he includes the internet into the list - imagine a fangirl without access to the net, scary.

So, yeah! Hot water! Civilisation!
