Calvin & Hobbes Meets Doctor Who

Okay, this whole thing is going to be spoilers, sweetie!


So that's why they call him Gandalf the White [snerk] I kept referring to the giant snowglobe voice as Magento Gandalf.

This episode was like Doctor Who crossed with Calvin & Hobbes, meets Mary Poppins, with a topping of Sherlock Holmes.

I knew there was going to be a new companion, but that's all I knew, so while she seemed familiar, I couldn't place her. Then came the souffle line, and BAM! It's Souffle Girl! I loved that episode, and her, and now I'm intrigued.

I very much liked the Doctor interacting with so many people that are his friends and care about him.

Enjoyable episode overall.

I've made a deal with myself when it comes to Doctor Who Christmas Specials. I check my snark and critical brain at the door, walk in there naked but for my pom poms, and spend the entire episode yelling, "Yay!" and "Oh noes!" and cooing, "Awwwwww."

What can I say? It works for me.

I gave this year's Christmas Special a try, after having not watched an episode of New Who since "The Doctor's Wife," and I'd only watched that episode because it was written by Neil Gaiman. I was pleasantly surprised to find I hadn't had that much fun watching a Doctor Who episode since "Journey's End." I didn't enjoy the Christmas special as much as that because there's no competition for a story in which Captain Jack Harkness and Sarah Jane Smith hug. Still, I had a lot of fun and found myself wondering about the Sontaran, Silurian, and her wife.
