We watched it today, finally. It wasn't nearly as terrible as I'd been reading before it aired. I actually like it better than Blood Ties, though it's such a total ripoff of Forever Knight.


The whole plot, including some of the dialog was pretty much straight out of the episode "Stranger Than Fiction". Throw in Joseph being Janette, and Mick's creator dying at the end by his hand. There was even flying Nick Mick face! And how many of us think his Master is actually dead? Err, yeah. she was probably 'too old and powerful' for that. Oh, and flashbacks while driving around in a convertible.

Now, this is on CBS, so I doubt it'll last longer than a few episodes, but I'll watch a few more and see how it goes. I really like the cast overall, and maybe they'll actually go for an original storyline next week!

Actually I like it quite a bit, more so than other new shows I've watched this week. The lead actor is not hard on the eyes either.

I was expecting it to be utterly awful, but we actually enjoyed it. And pilots tend to be shaky anyways, so I'm willing to give it a go to see how it shakes out.

The sunrise/sunset scenes on the city were too similar as well. Many similarities. You'd think they'd research their own shows.

I do like Sophia Myles though, she was good in Tristan and Isolde. As long as they don't make her character the perpetual character in distress/ambitious story seeking journalist. I thought the twist about how they first met was nicely handled. So, no, I don't think the master is dead, as she is sure to come back and cause havoc between these two.

Will also see what else they come up with. They have 3 seasons of FK to pull more story ideas from!

I downloaded it today, and quite enjoyed it too - apart from the voiceover. It was way too kitsch (film noir detective tropes are hard to do well) and I thought it was a pity, as the script was quite clever in parts.

Oh, and the opening would have been a lot stronger if they'd left the 'TV interview' dream out.

I think there is great potential here, though, and I even don't mind that they're stealing the concept from Forever Knight; lets face it, there are worse vampire programmes to steal from!

Plus, look at the pretty :-)

*Laughs* It just screams 'trying too hard', and takes some of the mystery out of the main chacter - a vampire can never be too enigmatic, I say!

I thought Moonlight was pretty good, yeah it's a rip-off of Forever Knight and Angel, but it has potential. The cast is good too. I like Jason Dohring (Josef), he was great in Veronica Mars.
I was a bit surprised to see Rudolph Martin (Christian) playing a pseudo-vampire, he played Dracula in episode #5.1 of Buffy.

I agree it is better than Blood Ties. I watched one episode of if and said Hell No. After reading the book series, the show was a major disappointment.

Ripoff of Forever Knight? Oh yeah, totally. But I liked it, nonetheless.

I agree that I don't see CBS keeping this show. They'll probably toss it by the wayside after a handful of episodes, but it does have promise.

All of the arial shots, the "flying over the city at night" shots, the sun rising over the city...I kept pointing and telling selannia what a total rip off that all was from Forever Night! Of course, there were also shades of Angel, and probably every other vampire show ever made. There's nothing original here, really.
I thought the fight scenes were really well done, nicely choreographed. But the dialogue sucks. And the blond chick is really not good. Not to mention her character is pretty stupid. It was so predictable, so cliched.
But...I'll keep watching for a while, see how it goes. I could deal with the lead guy if someone wrote him better lines. And I like his vampire friend, he's really good. :)

Yes, first season was part of their Crimetime After Primetime lineup, and it aired in what became David Letterman's spot at 1130pm. That's why it was dropped. Second season it was direct to syndication.

I never actually watched any of them, FK included. I worked graveyard shift in those days -- night auditor at a hotel -- so never caught TV that was on that time of night.

i didn't really watch S1 of FK... i think i finally watched it when my local philly channel showed them... PHL 17 went to the WB about when FK S3 aired on SciCrap....

Although I haven't seen 'Moonlight' yet, I too think that this show might be better than 'Blood Ties'. I only saw the trailer and liked it so far ;-)

Part of it for me is I don't really like Vicky, either in the show or in the books. These characters I think I'll actually like. It helps!

Thought it was okay. Like Bloodties better. Will watch it again to see if it improves. Bloodties did as it went along. If you haven't watched it watch episode 6 - Love Hurts - in the Bloodties series - my favorite.

I've seen all the BT eps. I watched them when they originally aired. I just liked Moonlight better. I found the characters more appealing , despite the FK ripoff aspect.

I couldn't get past the blatant Angel rip offs including the moody vampire ont he rooftop with the flowing black trench.

It wasn't horrible, just not that original. But surprisingly, the ratings weren't abysmal, so it might actually last. And that is mind boggling.

Oddly enough, it didn't remind me very much of Angel. But of course, Angel always struck me as very FKish as it was [g]
