Remember how bad my back was when I got home from Philly? It took weeks to settle down. Well, it's back, the bad back. All the coughing over the last week must have thrown it out of whack again. Now I'm back to not being able to sleep, sit, or stand in anything remotely resembling a comfortable less painful position. And I'm still coughing, which isn't helping.

Just though I'd whine for a bit.

I am sorry to hear about your continuing back problems. Do you have exercises to improve your back? If not, I can lend you mine as I have not been using them.

These exercises date to my "skiing accident" where I "broke my back" running into some snow making equipment (you were in kindergarten).

Anyway besides taking the appropriate analgesics to reduce the pain and tension in your back, there are three basic exercises to stretch/align the back:

- Modified sit-up: Lay on back with knees bent. Cross arms over chest and slowly sit up until the arms are touching the knees. Repeat twice.

- Rolling: After the "sit-ups", bring knees to chest, clasp arms around knees and slowly rock the back so that the shoulders and then your bottom touches the ground. Repeat twice.

- Extension: Lay on stomach with arms and legs extended. Arch back to lift shoulders and legs. Repeat twice. (When I do this, the shoulders end up 6-8" above the floor and my legs barely rise.)

Hope this helps. I know that back pain can be a real b1tch.

Take care and get better. At least Utah should help your cough.
