That's true, it does have some notariety. However that word might be spelled.

But alcohol in general has a big mystique thing going on. Social and antisocial. Writers always drink themselves to death, how much more antisocial can you be than drinking alone? And in tv and movies, everyone is always drinking, very social.

Do you remember the scene in Bram Stoker's Dracula where Dracula and Mina drink some absinthe? It was a very moody, well done scene. Also, very green.

I haven't seen that one, but I am a fan of the scene in From Hell where Johnny Depp's character is drinking absinthe. (see icon)
