Creepy and outright scary - because it implies "instincts of wariness and suspicion" are always bad. Um, hello? So nice that the idea it could be used as a date rape drug is just casually mentioned as an afterthought in the last paragraph. But aside from that, no problems at all! Woo!
I don't know, perhaps there is a reason some children are shy, a sort of primal survival technique, it seems the shy ones are generally (but not always of course) smaller, naturally quieter, less confidant, etc. which could put them at risk for being attacked or harmed in some way. Maybe they're shy so as to stay out of the way of harm? What child is more likely to be abducted by a child predator? The one who sticks close to mommy or daddy's side or the one who mindlessly wanders off?
Actually I was insanely shy, and still am to an extent, not as bad but still have issues. The comment was intended as a joke, and in order to look at something-though humorously usually pegged as a weakness or fault in a new light which showed it as something which was possibly positive.
I did actually, and I still wouldn't want to be drugged. Society's current obsession with trying to drug all personality from us is truly frightening IMHO.
