This is the only MPREG I've ever read so I'm not an expert. But the story was very cleverly written. In this one - "Misconceptions", it happens that male immortals have some type of pouch that really doesn't do anything - normally. It's nothing like a uterus and it doesn't work the same way. *Unless* two immortals share a quickening and have sex soon afterward. There is only a small window of a few hours and it doesn't matter what the gender is of the two immortals. If it is a man and a woman, she would conceive. But it it's two men then the one who *coffs* receives the sperm from the other immortal would conceive. And the pouch would be able to open up for business, so to speak - just because of the shared quickening. Very few immortals know about it. Methos did, although he certainly didn't think about it in Bordeaux. His student Julian knew about it. Julian is a doctor and one of the rare well done original characters in HL fanfiction.
It's normally another man. Although sexual contact is not always involved. Everyso often there is a good one but it is rare, like good LotR crosssovers, and they tend to be humour, crack or angst/horror.
The TW fandom has gone Mpreg mad at the moment so some unknown reason (the fact it has been canon notwithstanding, that isn't a reason for a glut now) and just reading the descriptions has been making my eyes glaze over :-(
Heh, while I'm currently writing/playing in an RPG a pregnant Captain Jack Harkness with Ianto Jones as the father, one of my favorite pieces of Doctor Who crack!fic is Jack/TARDIS where Jack's pregnant with little TARDISs. >:)
That sounds fun. I will always argue there is good MPreg out there, just that a lot of the rest is like being beaten around the head by a badly knitted, frilly bootie ;-)
