I recently rejoined [livejournal.com profile] crack_van after hearing they were adding Iron Man recs to their roster, and something that's surprised me is the amount of Jane Austen novel based fic out there. I hadn't realized it was such a prolific fandom. I haven't read any of them yet, but I've memmed a few for potential future reading.

I was thinking about that fandom the other day. Cos, as it's out of copyright, I was wondering (theoretically of course) if that would be fanfic you could legally make money from. Presumably you could, along with Shakespearian characters (tho I guess a lot of them are nicked from myth anyway) and any other works old enough that copyright no longer applies. *shrugs* What I know about the law you could put on a post-it and still have room for a short sonnet *grin*

There have actually been several novels published based on P&P. The one that comes directly to mind is Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife. (I suppose you could count 'Bridgit Jones's Diary' too.) So yes, it is fanfic you can make money from [g]
