I just gave a month's notice on my job. As of January 9th, I'll be gainfully unemployed and on my way to Utah with [livejournal.com profile] ninjababe. She starts at her new job (she got a transfer) on the 19th.

Now I need to see about purchasing medical insurance since I'll be without, and arrange movers and turning off utilities and stuff.

If you have insurance through your current employer, I believe you can keep that coverage through COBRA (http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm) for 18 months. You'll probably have to pay the whole premium, though.

Yeah, I'm going to CORRA my dental, but not the medical. It's crap insurance and it's way more than I can afford.

Keeping dental is always a good idea.

Yep, and I know I'll need a root canal next year, plus old fillings are due to start being replaced.

If you have the insurance, I suggest having a permanent bridge put in instead of having the root canal. The roots of the tooth become brittle over time and eventually it will have to be extracted.

I wish I had known this when I had a root canal done in 1980. Now I have a gaping hole where the tooth once was because the root actually cracked. That was when I learned that 20 years is about it for a tooth with no nerve. I had insurance for the root canal and none when the extraction (which was an "adventure" unto itself) was done.

Already had one done this last year, but will keep it in mind for the next one.
