We're in Mojave, just had KFC and am drinking some of the red wine I wisely brought along. Nin is AMAZING! She drove the 16 ft truck pulling the trailer with the Jimmy over two passes and rush hour traffic in Bakersfield. We'll get an early start tomorrow and hopefully will be home by dinner. I kept her awake and entertained with all the M7 stories I want to write, both OW and ATF. We'll get a 7am start we hope and stop at this great diner in Yermo for a late breakfast.
So yesterday was the moving day, and we ended up having to leave stuff behind. Don't believe Budget when they tell you a 16 is for a two bedroom four room apt.! Neither of us even had bedroom furniture and we had no dining room furniture. Bah! After the truck was packed, I cleaned some more of the apt., then Nin and I had a last dinner at our fave Japanese place. Vince came and sat with us and we chatted while we ate. They have all you can drink sake, and we did [g] Lord!! We were much more relaxed after dinner than before. So much so, we went bowling. I have bowled once in my life and that was 25 years ago. It was fun!! And I seem to be able to bowl left and right handed, though better with my right, which is odd. We may have to start doing it more regularly.
This morning, we did more last minute squeezing of things in, and handed over the apt. keys. Our landlord was almost in tears and she didn't even check the apartment. Said if we ever need anything, want to come back, need a personal reference, to let her know. Then we went on to get the trailer attached to the truck, loaded up the Jimmy, and headed out.
Nin's reading fic on her PDA, and we're watching American Idol, and I plan on having a hot bath!
Later!

Date: 2009-01-15 04:46 am (UTC)From:And here tonight, I came home, looked at the house and declared, "I don't want to pack all this!" Moving may be an adventure, but the prep work suck!
Good luck!

Date: 2009-01-15 07:19 am (UTC)From:Glad to hear things are going so well for ya'll. I can't believe my aunt and I drove from SC to OR in a 16 footer and towing my car on a car dolly. ( note to self, opt for the car trailer. Dolly totally F--ked up the front end of my car and totally fraked the shocks). It took us 5 days, but it was quite the adventure.

Ya'll take it nice and slow!

Date: 2009-01-15 05:48 pm (UTC)From:The one time I required a truck to move, my father looked at my roommate dubiously and said, "Can you double-clutch a truck up and down a hill?"
She said, "What's double-clutching?"
He said, "I'M driving." And so he did.

Date: 2009-01-15 06:02 pm (UTC)From:I never believe the movers. I had to move a small apartment (690 square feet) and the Company that moved me sent a full-size truck, which was 3/4s full. It's all the stuff in closets and cabinets that do you in . . .
