Me, Nin and my brother went looking at bikes today. Now I'm not walking the mile back and forth from work, I really need exercise, and Nin and I have been talking about getting bikes for a few years now. And where we currently live, there's so many places to go biking, including Zion Natl. Park, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Plus there are lots of rural roads and bike trails all over the place. And a few hours farther afield is Bryce Natl Park and Arches/Moab.

We looked at our little hometown place and then went into St. George to look at two other bike shops. Surprisingly, the hometown place had the best deal and the bikes I liked best. So Nin and I are currently in discussion on whether we're going to do this.

My son used to bike all over the place before he got his driver's license, and still tries to use the bike for shorter trips. Not easy when the closest grocery store is 5 miles away and there are no bike lanes.

The nice thing about local bike shops is they can help keep your bike in proper working order. I used to take Jim's bike in for a tune-up every spring. They would balance the tires, adjust the chain, check the gears, lubricate everything, and change his brake pads. I figured if he was going to use it in place of a car, it probably should be maintained like one.

Bikes sure are fancier than when I was a kid! And some cost more than I paid for my truck.
