ninjababe and I got our bikes this morning. They were two of three left of last year's model, so they knocked 10% off the price for us. I picked the 14'' frame, which is purple and white, and Nin got the 16'' frame which is silver grey and white. Oddly she felt more comfortable on the larger frame and me on the smaller, even though I'm taller than she is. They had us take them around the block, and since I hadn't been on a bike since I was 15, and that had pedal brakes and no speeds, it was initially a little nerve wracking! Will need to drive up and down the driveway for a bit, me thinks!

Date: 2009-04-10 01:14 pm (UTC)From:Aside from the numerous skinned knees (and the broken right elbow), my one serious injury was the concussion from hitting my head on the curb after spinning out after cutting a left turn too tight.
I am told that I walked my bicycle home after the fall, but all I remember was turning then waking up on the couch in the living room. (Thinking back, that might have been the year you were born.)
So wear your helmet.
I remember the transition from coaster brakes to hand brakes back in 1965(?) when my brother and I bought our Schwinn Collegiates. Some surprise the first time you back peddle to stop and the peddles go backwards.
