Someone on Ancestry.com responded to a query I made several years ago, and kindly supplied me with some new information. I'd only gotten as far back as my great grandparents, and now, I can go back to the great great greats [g]

So the first set, Frederick and Annie, is my mum's grandparents on her father's side.

married to Annie Margaret Anderson b. 7 Aug 1863 Grass Valley, California d. 12 July 1928 Telkwa, British Columbia

Father: John B. Heal b. 4 Sept 1814, in Devonshire, England d. 8 Dec 1896 in Victoria, British Columbia
Mother: Julia Ann Thompson b. abt 1837 in Tyrone, Ireland d. 1 Oct 1884 in Lake District, British Columbia

Father: James Heal b. abt 1788 Devonshire, England d. 6 Sept 1873 in Bowmanville, Ontario
Mother: Elizabeth Haines b. abt 1784 Cornwall, England d. unknown

So you have a Californian ancestor too? Interesting that your family came down from Canada and ended up there. I wonder where her parents came from.

Yep, which is why I say I'm a third generation Californian twice removed :) Basically, my great great grandparents got over Donner Pass and stopped. Grass Valley is in the Sierra foothills. They came from the UK, though I don't know where, and I believe they must have met and married in Kansas. They stayed in CA fr about five years before moving on to Victoria.
