IM Peeps!

For those of you steeped with all knowledge of the Iron Man universe, I have a question! If Tony's hurt whilst doing his Iron Man thing, would he be taken to some super secret SHIELD hospital? Or would he just go to the regular hospital?

Hmm. Trying to remember from my mainlining of IM comics... I think they have a sickbay type set up on the SHIELD Helicarrier. But he's probably ended up in a regular hospital too.

Thanks :) you know, it probably doesn't matter, since when he wakes up in hospital, I don't have to say where it is or anything, but I just *need* to know these little details, or it vexes me.

In all the things I've read he ends up in a regular hospital, even post-Extremis, but I'm not an expert on IM! But I'm pretty sure there is a hospital on the helicarrier, so I guess if he was working with SHIELD at the time, then he'd go there, but if he's alone or with the Avengers then they'd probably just take him to the nearest doctor, depending on severity of injury.

It depends actually. There are multiple versions. In the mainstream Marvel Universe it would also depend on the "when". In the early years, things would be handled privately through Stark Industries until an excuse for the injuries could be created. In the mainstream Iron Man universe Tony Stark maintained a secret identity for years, at one point even "firing" Iron Man and assisting the Federal Governement in hunting him down. In later years, and in the Ultimates Universe (prior to the Ultimates going private anyway) he would have been taken to a Shield medical facility.

FWIW, in old-school Marvel Universe Avengers days, he would end up with medical care paid for by Stark Industries, but in those days it was always a concern about keeping his identity secret, so stories were written to preserve it and therefore just didn't touch on possibilities like triage by his teammates. (The public/secret identity thing has always been a dividing line between Avengers lifestyles.)

Perhaps an interesting side-note: if it were a super-secret, alien or mystical injury, they (Avengers or SHIELD) might well call in Doctor Strange to help treat it -- cameo superhero doctor to the Marvel Universe at large, for all that he hasn't actually been a surgeon since his origin story, by definition. For example, Doctor Strange confirmed the Scarlet Witch's pregnancy, back in the day. Reliable, flexible, cameo ally and thematic opposite in every way. :-) ~shrug~ Just something the question called to mind...
