I notice a lot of folks calling Torcwood 'CoE' instead. There's always a momentary brain pause when I see it because CoE means Church of England to me [g] Thought I'd share.

We finished rewatching John Adams. OMG! The last episode I cried most of the way through. I'd remembered the last part made me weepy, but I'd forgotten just how much. And we now own the soundtrack, which I just love. Have been listening to it a lot the last few days.

Nin and I had been watching an ep of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives and one of the places Guy went to was a Mexican place in AZ. They made carnitas with condensed milk and cinnamon sticks, amongst other things. So I decided to give it a try. Now, there was no recipe, just viewing the segment and jotting down things thrown in the pot. It was pretty good, though I think I'd cut back on the milk as it was a little too sweet for me. Once it was done, I got out the cast iron griddle, rolled out two bits of corn tortilla dough then cooked them fresh with the meat and served people one at a time. Everyone really enjoyed it.

I really need to clean the litter box in my room. Stinky! The new litter isn't doing as good a job with the ammonia smell.

Have finally realized we'll never get caught up with Primeval, so will buy the DVDs at some point in the future. Needed to clear room on the DVR.

Nin's decided she doesn't want to see Transformers in the theater now and will wait for the DVD or PPV. Apparently she thinks she can save her 'drag Ith to a comic book movie' chip for GI Joe. I have objected that it's only a comic on a technicality and therefore is ineligible for said chip. When I was a kid, it was a toy and that was it. So, no! LOL Unless there's something coming up she has no interest in to trade for, but I don't know of anything.

I really want to go to Salt Lake City for my birthday. Not happening, since we can't afford it, but doesn't mean I can't whine.

Trying to decide if I'm feeling motivated enough to make a custard tart today. It's the standing over the hot stove stirring the custard that I'm not fond of. The kitchen always hovers around 80 in the summer.

We didn't have AC when I was growing up, so we were very strict about limiting heat-producing activities in the house. We used to keep the toaster out on the deck and cook dinner outside on a camp stove. Mom called it her "summer kitchen." :)

What does CoE stand for in Torchwood-land?

If we didn't have A/C, the stove wouldn't add to the heat of the room, I know this from recent A/C lessness! When it's 100+ it's just damn hot all around. But with A/C, it really does make the kitchen hotter. I'm hoping we can get a gas grill next year so I can do more cooking outside. And UV shielding on the kitchen windows. We have a huge floor to ceiling window in there and it just makes the kitchen bake.

It's stands for 'Children of Earth' which is the subtitle of this mini series.

We had all kinds of draconian heat-controlling measures. :) Here in southern Indiana it gets very humid, too, so controlling humidity was a big thing. (It got so humid that if we didn't run a dehumidifier, the downstairs carpet would mildew!) We used to leave the windows open overnight and in the morning to let in cool air, and then seal everything up as soon as it started to get hot. And we kept the curtains closed to keep the sun out.

It's been odd getting used to living in a bone dry climate. First time ever I've had to use a humidifier. Speaking of which, it needs refilled!
