Seriously Annoyed

Any other time, when I'm baking for no reason, all goes well. Today, because it's a birthday cake, of course, it all goes to hell. Neither layer would come out of the tin. Now I have a puzzle cake, with both layers fitted back together from the several pieces they broke into. ARGH!

I am not a happy camper right now.

The exact same problem happens to my mam when she bakes. Just for family, for no reason, she bakes a cake Mary Berry would be proud of. If it's for a special occasion? Flat as a pancake, and usually a little dry. Sod's law, I reckon. Long as it tasted good, that's all that really matters though. :)
