Do You Ever?

Do you ever get these bursts of manic writing, and you just type as fast as you can, trying to capture every little drop? And then, the next day, it's almost like you dreamed it all; it has that same sort of vague ethereal quality in your memory. Except you didn't dream it, you have the proof on your HD. So you read what you wrote the night before and wonder, where in the hell did that all come from?!?

That's me today.

Well, I can't speak to the 'good' part in my case, but it certainly took me somewhere I wasn't quite expecting.

OH, have I ever done that. Of course, since I'm manic-depressive I tend to have manic spells when I write - and usually very emotionally-driven. Since I've been relatively stable my writing style has changed and it's taken me a lot longer to author a story.

My son gets those as well - and his stuff just comes out plain old strange. ;-)

About 8-9 years ago, I was fairly ill and in alot of pain. boy, the stuff I wrote! Almost like I was a different person during those spells.

I would LOVE to have days like that again...used to have them earlier in the year, but lately have been thrown off by some emotional crap where that is concerned. Am hovering around in shallow waters now.

But yeah, I know what you mean. Usually they come late at night when its time for me to go to bed.

Hard part is getting the family to understand what that is all about...they get real offended thinking Im ignoring them, when its really all about being "possessed" by the Muse.

Oh, do I get that.

When that happens, I look back over what I wrote and, aside from all the red marks, think wha???? Cool. And I pat myself on the back and can't write a blessed word for a few days as I recover.

With me it's usually all in my head and when I'm doing something or somewhere that I can't write it down. Then when I sit down to type/write - it's just *gone*

Oh yeah, happens to me constantly. I'll have these wonderful stories unspool as I'm falling asleep, or if I wake up in the middle of the night, but come the next night when I'm hope from work and able to try and wrtie it down, I can almost never reconstruct it. It's very frustrating!

In this case, it was only one line of dialogue, so I jotted it into an email and sent it to myself.

I have written whole stories from one good line of dialogue that attacks me on the way to work and won't leave me alone.
