ithildin: (Nature - Winter Frost)

First off, what were they smoking? Have to ask.

I didn't think I'd find less to like than in Water of Mars, but there you go. A few of the little quiet moments were great, like that conversation between Wilf and the Doctor, but overall I was just rolling my eyes. What? The Master is Emperor Palpatine now with lighting bolt attachments on his appendages? And the leaping over tall buildings thing - made me think he'd gotten an ACME shipment from Loony Tunes. And 'Master race'? Yeah, sure whatever. And having Donna around just reminded me how ticked off it made me after what they did to her.

I did have two squee worthy moments: Timothy DALTON!!! And, Time Lords are BACK! (even if they are nasty pieces of work)

Practically every moment with Wilf was great, but the rest? Glutted on overblown imagery that thinks itself portentous. I'd long thought RTD was going to unlock the timewar, I actually think he's going to press the big red reset button on everything - which includes Jack and his immortality.

I can sum up my thoughts in six letters: WTF RTD?

Personally, I think he's doing it on purpose. I imagine him handing it to Moffat and saying "Ha! Get out of that!" XD

On a related note, David Tennant is totally taking over the UK schedules this Christmas, he's guested on Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Qi, Catherine Tate Christmas Special, Jonathan Ross' Radio 2 Show, and tonight BBC2 is showing Hamlet!

Too much spittle (sorry Mr. Dalton) and evil/crazy laughter for my tastes. Hmm.

Maybe he's channelling the Valeyard and/or earlier regenerations of the Master?

I have only seen three episodes of the 'new' Dr. Who. I have not been impressed. I love Timothy Dalton, but the spit and maniacal laughter?

Okay, I'll watch the second part, but after that?

I agree. WTF RTD?

My theory is that RTD had this huge stockpile of cracky moments he's been wanting to use in DW, and when he realized he only had two episodes left, he tried to cram them all into one episode (I hope it's just the one episode... I really want part two to be dramatic, darnit!) So I'm going to cross my fingers here. After all, the second part has supposedly reduced several grown men to tears, and I'm hoping it's not because of the sheer lunacy of it all...

Man, I am so glad the majority of my FL feel the same way as I do. I went through all of the reviews linked from who_daily and the comments at the main DW comm and I couldn't believe the levels of positive reaction I saw. I'm like, "Were we watching the same EPISODE?"

You're talking about The End of Time? I haven't seen it yet. But I will watch it when it comes on in a bit. We actually have digital cable and have BBC America so I could have but I tend to watch TV in my room (where I don't have it, or just forget we have so many channels on the other TV :). This post actually is what made me think 'oh wait, we have BBC America!".

I am actually watching Water of Mars right now, what don't you like about it? I'll have to get back to you once I watch End of Time

It was when it hit the ranting and raving 'I am a God' Doctor bit. Too much scenery chewing for my liking.

OK yeah, I'm watching last night's episode now, the two men who had been at the stand were just attacked by the guy and I am already like ".......what?"

OK (last update I swear!) Just finishing the episode and I think this icon pretty much sums up my thoughts

SPOILERS!!! ... ish

Don't get your hopes up. From what I remember part 2 is great up until the last 15 minutes, and then it becomes incredibly self-indulgent. But that's based on the script I read back in April/ May and I've been wrong before!

And I for one am loving the Tennant take-over. After being paid to watch him every single day, I've missed David!
