ithildin: (Nature - Frosted Holly)
We went to see Sherlock Holmes with my mum this afternoon, and YAY! the IM II trailer was shown!

We all really enjoyed it, much more than I'd expected. Though I did have something of a chicken or egg thing going because it really reminded me more of House and Wilson than any prior Holmes shows/movies I've seen in the past. So that was rather interesting.

Wasn't too sure about Mary in the beginning, but she'd grown on me by the end, and I loved Irene! It was nice to have a more prominent female presence than is usual in a Holmes project.

RDJ was very good in the role I thought, as well as the actor who played Watson (whose name escapes me currently). Overall, a thumbs up from all three of us and definitely a DVD purchase when it comes out.

Hey, I was just about to turn in when I saw your post. Holmes is playing in our theaters as well, and I was interested in whether it's something I should go see. Seeing thumbs up from you tells me I should.

Oh, have you guys seen Avatar yet? I have much love for that movie, and I loved both the characters and the story. Couple of scenes that reminded me of my own war experience gave me goosebumps.

No, it'll probably be a DVD rental for us. We don't actually go see many movies. This is the first one since Star Trek, I think.

It's a great event movie and I would die to see it in 3D! How can you not see this movie? Someone on one of the forums I frequent says his army friend told him this movie is being talked about in remote villages in Africa. Now that's word of mouth!

Watson is played by Jude Law!

It was a pretty decent movie. I would have liked a little more interaction between Holmes and Watson.

Wasn't that pretty much the entire movie? [g]

Hi there,

Saw Holmes today too and enjoyed it more than I thought I would also. Liked both Mary and Irene. And the dog. :) Jude Law played Watson and I thought he and RDJ had a great dynamic as Holmes and Watson. Did you also happen to catch the surname of one of the minor characters? When I heard it, I may have gasped and my brother thumped me on the back thinking my candy went drown the wrong way.

Anyway, I definitely squealed when the IM2 trailer came out. Can't wait until May. :)

My son and I went to Holmes yesterday. He wasn't too sure afterwards, but we both liked it and expect to see sequelae. We both loved what they did to recreate the appearance of 19th century England. Good use of (basically) untouched locations along with the obvious green screen and matte work. Piccadilly looked positively plain compared to its current state.

We got Owen Wilson voicing Marmaduke in one of the trailers. Not something I would want to go see.

The women went to see Young Victoria. No comments were forth coming, so I have no idea how it went. After looking it up on iMDB, I got to wondering if Paul Bettany managed to include a scene where Lord Melbourne is shown naked. He seems to have one of those scenes in each of his movies.

I hope to see it and Avatar next week, but probably not before then.

Glad you enjoyed it!
