What exactly is Vox anyway? I know it's by the same people as LJ, but what's different? "Vox
implies it has something to do with voiceposts, is that correct?

I have no idea :) It reminds me of Blogger in some ways -- which isn't a good thing. It's just another aspect of Six Apart taking over my online life. I run my blog on Moveable Type, I have their LJ, and now VOX
