ithildin: (Methos - Last Beer)
I'm stealing this from one of my own emails, with some additional stuff.

Say that 10-15 years from now they revisit Highlander as a TV series. Would you like to see them take the original TV series and remix it like they did with Battlestar Galactica, or would you prefer the Star Trek route, using the universe and the history, but with new characters? Or something else entirely?

Same question for fellow fans of a few of my other main fandoms:

Blake's 7?

Forever Knight?

I'm just odd question girl the last few days :)

I think they already did this with Forever Knight. It was called "Buffy" and "Angel" :P

Really? I didn't think Buffy was anything like Forever Knight.

Was said mostly in jest, since Buffy/Angel had the same idea and more success than FK did. Buffy/Angel had many of the same themes, but the "younger hip" aspects that Forever Knight was never quite able to capture, even with Season 3. Angst aplenty, however.

They did it with Dr Who, too!

It's so hard to say what I'd want them to do with HL... re-doing the original seems pointless, but then the same universe with new characters - hey, wasn't that HL: The Raven?

I'm not sure I'd trust them to improve on the original. ;-)

Hmmm... I didn't include Dr. Who since the way the show is set up, it's always reinventing itself depending on which incarnation of the Doctor they're in. At least for me, that's how it's been. That's one of thie things I've found interesting is the way many of the new fans latched onto Rose, despite the fact that companions come and go. That's integral to Dr. Who. But that's a whole other subject, I guess [g] I seem to be tangent girl the last week. [oooh! new bright shiney... wanders off to new pretty topic]

The new Doctor seems to have a bit of a different dynamic - not 9 so much, but 10 we are clearly being encouraged to see as a romantic figure, and companions as almost girlfriends. That, I think, makes things a *bit* different. That, and us old-time people are used to the changing cast of companions, while the newbies haven't seen that and, while they may have *heard* that companions come and go, they haven't *seen* it happen.

Finally catching up with Season 2 - up to Cybermen - I'm kind of astonished to see that the Doctor is being portrayed as a bit of a woobie. Huh!

Currently watching the old Buck Rogers series on DVD. The best acting in most episodes was Mel Blank as the voice of Twiki. Some things can't be redone.

I'll admit, I thought I was going to hate the new BSG. Was sure of it [g]. But I was so wrong. So, if Highlander were done in that sort of way, and that well, and with enough time having passed between the new one and the original, I'd give it a go. Now, what if like Starbuck, they made Methos female? Or Duncan for that matter? Hmmm.... Duncan and Richie female, Tessa male.

*Nods* I agree with you, if the director and cast were good, I'd be more than willing to watch it.

Now, what if like Starbuck, they made Methos female?

ROFL! Oh my, it would be worth watching just to see that!

FK, same characters, new stories.

Dammit, you were my friend first, I'm gonna comment on this! *grin*

I would hate to see Highlander remixed, as much as I adore the new BSG. I would much prefer the Star Trek route. Unfortunately, since Immortality doesn't exist, you can't just have Mac or Methos show up a la Spock or Sarek, but the possibilities for the universe (as evidenced by the endless amounts of fanfic) are endless.

Just don't make it like that horrid animated series. *shudders*

I'd hate to see Highlander redone in any way -- the current characters are part and parcel with the universe in my heart. Take away these characters as portrayed by these actors and my fannishness evaporates.

Honestly, though I like a good gender-switch story (along with good death stories and the occasional good AU) *in fanfic*, a female Methos in a remixed canon just wouldn't be Methos to me.
