So it looks like Alison is on board for the discussion of the Methos episodes here. Just a little recap, she's a new fan of the show, so this is all fresh, bright, and sparkly for her and she was looking for people to talk to about the show:)

My plan -- at least at this moment -- is to post a recap of the episode and let the comments take it from there. Any better ideas on how to set this up are more than welcome. Depending on how it goes, I'll do two a week.

Methos, Air Date: 03/95

When two Watchers end up dead by Kalas' hand, Joe realizes that Kalas is looking for Methos, the mythical "oldest Immortal." MacLeod knows that, with Methos' quickening, Kalas would finally be strong enough to defeat him. Kalas and MacLeod race to be the first to find Methos.

There's a bit about Richie and the pointless race backstory, but we don't really care about that, do we? Heh!

Next up for discussion will be Finale 1 & 2, in case anyone had the urge to go watch before we talk :)

One note: you can comment here without being an LJ user, but if you do comment anon, could you sign your comment with a name so we can think of you as something other than 'hey you' :) Thx!

Addendum: The 'Finale' discussion is going on here.

Bikes or no bikes, I think it was a daft idea to have any subplot when introducing a character like Methos. Just the idea that there's actually an Immie who's been around for 5000 years is far more significant than illustrating how reckless a young Immie can be.

Sod that, gimme the old fart. Especially one who oozes sex appeal :)

Darius was a couple of thousand, and Marcus Constantine. I'm pretty sure when Methos was first introduced I didn't think he'd last more than a couple of episodes. The series didn't have a track record of sustaining older Immortals. And Richie's story wasn't or it shouldn't have been just "illustrating how reckless a young Immie can be." It was about Richie getting to do something he'd really wanted to do, and with his crash losing it. I can't remember for certain, but I don't think they spent much time on how he'd gotten to race or what it was to lose that to him. I do remember a lecture from Duncan about how he was dead to that life for a generation. Why they bothered with the lecture when they didn't dwell on it. *Shrugs.* I don't know as trying to have more than one plot in an the episode was a great idea, but Methos was only suppose to last 3 episodes. He wasn't suppose to be a big deal. It was Richie's third season as a regular.

The oddest thing for me was that the backstory was totally unrelated to the main story. There was no connection I could ever come up with at least.

Oh, I always figured the Richie subplot was there to have him in the episode without putting him in the main plot. It's always bugged me because I always figured either have him in the main plot or leave him out. Why bother wasting time and space on a subplot you're barely going to go anywhere with? *Shakes head.*

I agree with ithidrial that the biggest problem, even if you do like Richie, is that the two plots have nothing to do with one another. The Methos plot is so much more interesting that the motorbike plot just gets forgotten.

Yep! And I have more than once liked the backstory in a show more than the main one. And I liked Richie too. And Silas, and salad, but that's another episode [g]
