'Methos'

So it looks like Alison is on board for the discussion of the Methos episodes here. Just a little recap, she's a new fan of the show, so this is all fresh, bright, and sparkly for her and she was looking for people to talk to about the show:)

My plan -- at least at this moment -- is to post a recap of the episode and let the comments take it from there. Any better ideas on how to set this up are more than welcome. Depending on how it goes, I'll do two a week.

Methos, Air Date: 03/95

When two Watchers end up dead by Kalas' hand, Joe realizes that Kalas is looking for Methos, the mythical "oldest Immortal." MacLeod knows that, with Methos' quickening, Kalas would finally be strong enough to defeat him. Kalas and MacLeod race to be the first to find Methos.~ Recap via tv.com

There's a bit about Richie and the pointless race backstory, but we don't really care about that, do we? Heh!

Next up for discussion will be Finale 1 & 2, in case anyone had the urge to go watch before we talk :)

I figure Methos has had a varied sex life over the millennia..

Likewise, but I've never managed to get my head round Duncan-related slash. The lad's just a little too straight in all things.

That's pretty much where I am too :) Just thinking of Duncan that way makes my brain hurt. Doesn't fit with my own take on the character at all.

As a side note of no interest, but... my roommate, who is the slash queen, doesn't do HL slash. I think it's one of the few fandoms she doesn't.

*Nods.* I'd have to ask amongst my slasher friends to see if some of them don't do Highlander slash. I know one was recently explaining why she personally likes slash and she mentioned how some of the Highlander slash is natural to her, but she can go either way with Duncan.

Actually, I would not say he is too straight in all things. Rather, he is Alpha male. While this is somewhat crude I keep thinking of something a cattle rancher told me. "The Alpha male in the herd will mount a young male when females are not available"

As the character of Duncan has a very strong sexuality to him and it comes out in all things, his movement (probably AP's dancer training), his social interactions, even his annoying pouting, I can see how the slash concept can play out to some. With Duncan being such a type A, for him the sexual experience would be more about the nature of the role (Alpha) then the actual partner.
