Just a few random thoughts about Captain America.
I absolutely loved Peggy Carter - she was hot and competent and kicked ass. I cried when she was talking to Steve as his plane went down.
Nazi Elrond - Hugo Weaving so sounded like Elrond, except with a German accent. It was very distracting.
Howard Stark - I hadn't realized Stark Industries existed before the war. We'll probably never see it (but that's what fic's for) but I really want to know what turned the Howard Stark we saw in the movie into the distant, bitter man he became. And when Steve meets Tony... well that should be interesting. Steve's Howard wasn't the father that Tony knew. More's the pity. And I'm guessing Howard was quite a bit older when Tony was born. If Howard was say, 25, in CA, and Tony's supposed to be early 40s in 2010, so he was around 50 when Tony was born? That last time we see him, not giving up searching for Steve was very poignant.
I'm assuming Redskull was taken away by a bifrost? It sure looked like the same effect in Thor, and Loki did say there were many paths to Asgard. I guess he'll meet up with Loki just in time to wreak havoc in the Avengers.
The energy from the cube Howard was experimenting on - anyone else think that was the element Howard left the clues for Tony to create in IM II?

I know! I thought it was especially telling because he doesn't start immediately on the cube when it's found. You know in any other circumstance, he'd be dying to see what makes it tick and everything but he cares more about his friend.
Do you think this is when he starts drinking?

I'm fairly certain that was a bifrost, given that the cube was Asgard in origin (or at least Odin owned it at one point, I'm a bit fuzzy on the origins of the Cosmic Cube and of course comic-verse doesn't necessarily meant movie-verse). Knowing a little bit about how the Cosmic Cube stuff played out in the comics means I have a vague idea where The Avengers might take things, so I'm keeping my lips tightly sealed about anything else!

Date: 2011-08-01 03:05 am (UTC)From:I too am looking forward to the Tony-Steve meeting. I really liked Howard Starke and was sad to know how he turned out, brilliant yet an awful father. I too figured he must have been old when he finally had Tony. Do we ever hear anything about Tony's mom in the movies?
Haven't seen Thor myself yet but my bro said Red Skull dude most likely was transported there and will be back as a bad guy in the next movie. Bet Steve won't like that much.
And yes, I totally agree with the blue energy cube/element idea!

Date: 2011-08-01 03:44 am (UTC)From:I've been thinking the exact same thing about Howard and Steve and Tony. I also think the loss of Steve was the beginning of Howard's downward spiral. He found the Cube.. but he kept looking for his friend. I'm betting years or searching for him, years of trying to understand the Cube (if the SSR even allowed him to study it - though I'm pretty damn sure they did. I think his arc reactor IS the same energy! And then Tony figured out how to make it better, and then the link to the new element that Howard leaves for Tony - obvious that and the big arc reactor are the farthest Howard was able to get before his death.) Howard seemed to be the type to care alot about his friends.. look at him flying Steve out there, etc. I think losing Steve left him a bit broken... Kinda got the impression Howard didn't have alot of friends. His intellect got in the way just like with Tony. I see Tony sort of that way. But with HUGE abandonment issues. Don't let anyone get close cause they'll hurt him.. plus his intellect puts him just that step above people. Sure, he can flirt, he can see how social interactions work... but he doesn't see the point in DOING it. Howard did want it. And he had it with Steve.. and then lost it. Does that make sense to anyone else? (course, I think Tony would go horribly the same way if he lost Pepper.)
