I haven't been able to backup to Dreamwidth since August, so I finally opened a support request. Apparently, there's some sort of code difference now between the two, and unless LJ makes a change, I'll no longer be able to use Dreamwidth. So DW will now become like IJ was - something I only use when LJ is down. Real bummer that.

Uh why don't you do it the other way? Post from DW to LJ. That makes LJ the backup. The only thing you won't be able to import will be comments.

Because I have a permanent account on LJ and all my icons and only 15 odd here. Also, LJ Addon for Firefox, which I can't do without, and LJ android app.

LJaddons works with Dreamwidth. In fact, it can work with any type of account. You go to Setting, second to last button, and where it says External sites, put in your DW recent entries url, or check the "On all" check box an you're set. (If we're talking about the same addon? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/livejournal-addons/)

Bummer about the code difference. I mostly use just a couple of icons, so I don't care about that and cross post, but it would be a major pain for someone who does. :(

I just have no interest operating out of two places, one, because I can never sustain it. I had a paid account on Insane Journal, and I used it actively for maybe 9 months, I haven't touched either of my Google+ accounts for months. To get the features of my LJ here (lots of icons, my exquisite theme that Jinxed-wood made me, for example) I'd have to get a paid account here, which isn't in the cards currently. And I'd still be commenting, reading my flist, posting to comms on LJ, so just coming here to crosspost doesn't make any sense to me personally.

Who knows, it may get fixed at some point, if it doesn't, well, can't complain about free ice cream, you know?

Yeah, I know. I barely ever open my Facebook, I spent maybe a month or so on Google+, I recently shut down my website (which I wasn't updating anyway so it was just draining my money), and will have to see if I have any other accounts in places I don't use. In the end I'm just going to keep my LJ for my flist, DW in case LJ pulls of something really obnoxious, and my DeviantArt which I also haven't updated in a long time, but I am slowly returning to painting. I want to be able to post any artwork I might create in a place provided for artists. And who knows, maybe one day, someone will commission me. :)

Oh, and in case you're not subscribed to dw_news, there was an announcement recently about importing from LJ:

"If your account is one of the ones affected by the bug, you may want to report it to LiveJournal's support team -- however, based on the answers they've given other people who reported it to them previously, they do seem to be aware of the problem and are working on a fix, so it's probably not absolutely necessary."

So hopefully, that will be resolved soon.
