ithildin: (Media - Bloom No More)
I tried to watch The Hobbit trailer on the 'official' site - iTunes/Apple, but it kept giving me page not found. After ten minutes of reloading, I gave up and went to YouTube, voila!

The trailer definitely is more 'grownup' in tone than the book. It's more like they're giving us a sequel - of sorts - to the prior movies, than a prequel to the novels. Though how that will play out in the actual movie, I don't know. Trailers can be very different from what we end up seeing on screen. Overall, it looks awesome, and I'm very pleased at seeing some of the things that were going on outside of the actual Hobbit, all those wonderful bits from the appendices and such. The one thing I'm still ambivalent about is the actor playing Bilbo - he just doesn't do it for me. I still see his character in Love Actually, the adult movie lighting double. It's very disconcerting. But I'm in it for the Elves, so I think there will be much to make me happy!

Isn't Martin Freeman playing Bilbo? If he could convince me he was Arthur Dent, he can pretty much convince me of anything.

Yes, he is.

Have you had a chance to watch the BBC Sherlock eps? Martin Freeman plays John Watson with a dual air of seriousness and spirit, and that portrayal makes me think he'll do Bilbo justice.

The part of the trailer that got me was the singing. I wasn't sure they could pull that off in the movie without being ridiculous, but what I heard sent shivers down my spine :)

Need to get that book out of storage for the holidays...

It looks like it's going to be all kinds of fun.

I just watched it and for the first time, I think it might be worth seeing.

I know. I know. Peter Jackson did a fabulous job with LotR and he's a genius for his vision, but imo he totally missed the point about the hobbits, so to trust him to do well by The Hobbit? It's a stretch for me.
