Spoilers for Desolation of Smaug... )

The Hobbit

Have seen it twice, and generally enjoyed it, but, of course, I have some nits to pick! And if you've never read the Hobbit and/or other related Tolkien writings, there will be spoilers for what may come in the next two installments.

Being the semi-disgruntled musings of a Tolkien fangirl.... )

And some non-spoilery stuff: The HFR 3D version. Nin said it was like looking out a window, and it was. It seemed very...real. Not sure how to explain it. It almost felt as if you could open the window and touch Middle Earth. Adding to it was the new Atmos Dolby sound - OMG! I'm an audiophile, and I was blown away. At one point I heard snoring and though the person behind me had fallen asleep, and then realized it the movie. Dang! Also, I think the higher frame rate lends itself to 3D better. Much less blur during action sequences than in the IMAX 3D version, and no post 3D movie eyestrain. Will be interested in seeing where this technology goes.

The IMAX had a ten minute clip of the new Star Trek movie, which left me with much food for thought. Will probably do a separate post for that.

And lastly, I want to live in Imladris. Wanted to when I was 16, and still do.

I've written 2000 words of my gift exchange fic, which surprises me. And I'm still not done.

Article here on season 4 of Covert Affairs: 'Covert Affairs' season finale postmortem: Creators talk show-changing moment.

Over the last few days, I've rewatched The Lord of the Rings (Extended versions, of course I don't even own the theatrical versions anymore.). I finished Return of the King about 1AM this morning, and, as per usual, I started tearing up just before the eagles rescue Sam and Frodo and cried pretty much non stop till the credits.

[livejournal.com profile] ninjababe's birthday is coming up, and she's decided that instead of a thing to open, she'd rather go see The Hobbit in Vegas in a high frame rate theater, which they have down there. We'll spend the night, come back Monday morning and head to work.

Speaking of Nin, I totally got her to write this. It's a Firefly/A Team crossover. She hates me LOL

Rumour has it that Elladan and Elrohir will be in the Hobbit. SQUEEEE! That would be so cool. If there was any doubt, I'm a such a LOTR fangirl!

I tried to watch The Hobbit trailer on the 'official' site - iTunes/Apple, but it kept giving me page not found. After ten minutes of reloading, I gave up and went to YouTube, voila!

The trailer definitely is more 'grownup' in tone than the book. It's more like they're giving us a sequel - of sorts - to the prior movies, than a prequel to the novels. Though how that will play out in the actual movie, I don't know. Trailers can be very different from what we end up seeing on screen. Overall, it looks awesome, and I'm very pleased at seeing some of the things that were going on outside of the actual Hobbit, all those wonderful bits from the appendices and such. The one thing I'm still ambivalent about is the actor playing Bilbo - he just doesn't do it for me. I still see his character in Love Actually, the adult movie lighting double. It's very disconcerting. But I'm in it for the Elves, so I think there will be much to make me happy!

We decided to watch Fellowship of the Ring tonight, finished, then put on Two Towers. Nin failed me - she just went to bed. We'll see how long I last. Treebeard just showed up.

Yesterday's project was redoing my fic tags, and LJ does not make it easy to do bulk tag changing. They need a merge function! And I need to remember to read over my tags more often, because I come across ones I forgot I used before, so end up with several tags for pretty much the same subject.

We were up past 3am watching RotK, and I went to sleep all stuffed up from crying. you'd think as many times as I've read the books and seen the movies, the end wouldn't still turn me into a weeping puddle. But it does.

Waiting for Nin to get up so we can decide what we're doing today. I'm thinking building shelves, giving the dog a much needed bath, and weedwhaking my back patio area. Hopefully, in the early part of the evening we can take the bikes out for a spin.

Must do a TV post soonish. Realized I haven't talked about Chuck and Friday Night Lights, both of which were great.

Oh, and speaking of TV, see my new default icon of Adam Cartwright? It was made for me by the very sweet and talented [livejournal.com profile] bookaddict43. She made me four, and they're all awesome! Thank you!

You know, I always rend to forget how strange [livejournal.com profile] ninjababe can be, and then digs back amongst her old blog posts and reposts the result of me describing Sauron as 'an eye on a pogo stick'. [sighs]
