We watched Return of the King again last night (something Rob avoids because it makes him homesick) and they did such a good job considering how in depth Tolkein was and how little time (comparatively) a filmaker has to get all that across. Would anyone else even bother to maintain continuity in terms of style, scripting etc?
As for more prequels *face!palm* some things are best left to the written word.
